Darlington 10km - Medal Monday! 🏅
What a day for running in our hometown. Darlington is where Susie and I grew up, so being able to run our town's 10km, now grown into a full running festival with kids' races, a 5km and the 10km never gets old.
Three of us from LRC lined up for the 10km and all had strong days out there. Robyn and David used it as an event towards their big goal, the Great North Run in September, and both had great performances finishing in 70 minutes and 48 minutes respectively. Brilliant signs of the fitness building nicely ahead of September especially as they are both balancing training with two young kiddos and work 🙏🏻
As for me, I wasn't sure I'd make the start line after a bout of family illness, but missing this one was never really an option. So I lined up, gave it everything I had on the day, and crossed the line knowing it wasn't the time I'd trained for but grateful beyond words just to be out there. The Darlington crowd support is like nothing else in a 10km, and it carried me round. Came away with 1st in my age group and 3rd team for Darlington Harriers.
Happy Medal Monday to all who raced, and thank you to everyone who made the day so special.
