My aim is to help you to move more effortlessly and freely in your everyday life, “oiling” the joints with gentle controlled movements and helping you to develop both strength and mobility in a balanced way. All ages ar
e welcome; whether you are a parent wanting to rebuild core strength & posture now that your children are at school, newly retired & motivated to maintain bone mass & keep aches & pains at bay, working from home & keen to fit some movement into your desk-bound day, or in your 70s & determined to maintain your strength and balance, my small friendly classes or online sessions can help you feel great again!! Taking an hour out of your day to focus completely on how your body is moving now and how to help it move and feel better can be a wonderful part of your self-care routine. Every Worth Pilates class will include a variety of standing, seated, kneeling and lying exercises using small equipment (such as resistance bands, balls, foam rollers, weights and toning circles) or just gravity to strengthen and mobilise the main joints of the body. We will learn how breathing well can really help you to move well and how it is crucial for building a strong yet adaptable “core” as well as helping you to relax at the end of the day. Pilates is also wonderful for teaching you high-quality movement to carry into your everyday lives and as such we also incorporate day-to-day "natural movements" such as squatting, rolling, crawling, getting up and down from the floor, and sitting or standing with great posture. These are the essential movements that our bodies need to do well for healthy day-to-day living but often our sedentary lives cause us to lose these fundamental movement skills. Practising Pilates rebuilds the strength and flexibility to perform these crucial skills with ease.
Very often stiffness, joint problems and balance- or movement difficulties can be caused by alignment issues and so our exercises focus on how we align or “stack” the different parts of our body for optimal effect, reducing wear and tear on the joints, maximising the bone-building capability of every movement and allowing our muscles to work in the most coordinated way possible. Even if you are very sporty and active you may still have pain in your joints or stiffness that you notice when you for run or play tennis or golf or work hard in the garden. Classes at Worth Pilates give you the opportunity to slow down and “look under the microscope” at how your body is moving, exploring, fine-tuning and practising the small movements which put together in the most efficient sequence help us to move freely and with ease, reducing our injury risk and allowing us to keep doing the things we love for as long as possible. Being able to focus on detailed movements at specific joints also means that we can adjust each exercise to be safe and beneficial for those of you with, for example, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, hip or knee replacements etc. But we can also tweak each movement to make it more challenging, highlighting when and where your body might be compensating for movement restrictions or imbalances and showing you how to get more "bang for your buck" and greater results with every exercise. As a Body Control Pilates® Instructor my Group Classes will only contain 8-10 people. This is so I can give you my full attention, provide you with personalised cues and help you to perform every exercise in a way that's right for you. Private Pilates Sessions: During 1:1 sessions we can spend time focussing on exactly what you and your body most need, at a speed and intensity that suits you, and we can create a bespoke homework plan to work on in-between sessions helping you to feel better and stronger more quickly and to reach your physical or movement goals. Private Sessions can provide an Introduction to Pilates before joining a Group Class, as a regular top-up and complement to Group Classes or instead of Group Classes if you would prefer to learn Pilates in a private setting.
