Kaiku

Kaiku Underground venue and hotspot for music fans, with a hefty sound, spacious dancefloor and a lineup of local and international DJs every week.

Opened in 2013, Kaiku has steadily kept itself in the heart of Helsinki nightlife. Located in an old factory building between the live venue/club Kuudes Linja and Bar Siltanen, Kaiku offers a selection of best international and local guests every week. A great sound system has also always been a part of Kaiku's reputation. Reappearing guest DJ's include Tama Sumo, I-F, Helena Hauff, Horse Meat Dis

co, Prosumer, Fred P, Hunee, Dixon, Kim Ann Foxman and The Black Madonna among many others. In 2014, The Guardian asked top DJ's to list their favourite European clubs. Kaiku was chosen as one of the 25 venues by Amsterdam-based Young Marco – "If I designed a club it would look like this one. A big wooden box, a great sound system, a Rotary mixer in the booth and working turntables (which is not a given these days, unfortunately). Combine that with a very open-minded crowd and great programming and you have Kaiku. The people behind this place are in it for all the right reasons and pure love of music – and you will notice it when you’re there. "

Illustrations and posters for Kaiku by Linda Linko won the European Design Awards in 2014. Recently Kaiku was featured in Resident Advisor’s RA In Residence series and hosted an all-night Boiler Room broadcast.

SAT 1/8 – Kaiku presents: Katerina & Lil Tony

On the 1st of August, that is this Saturday, Kaiku offers you a gargantuan display of local mastery. Room one is an all-night back-to-back between Lil Tony and Katerina. Both have been central in shaping the sound of Kaiku throughout the club’s existence, so what you are receiving is an immersion into the pure, distilled essence of Kaiku. It’ll be deep, heady, energetic, mysterious and inviting, filled with unknown pleasures and throbbing pulses, much like the darkening summer nights we are now enjoying.

If room one can be seen as a testament to the experience and craft that has created the sonic backbone of Kaiku, then room two presents the newer generation that has emerged in recent years to continue the tradition as well as reinvent it. Leading the charge in room two are DJ HLB, Nikita DJ, Hitoshi, and Snamu. Tens across the board, as the saying goes. See you on the dancefloor.

Limited amount of advance tickets 12 € via Eventual. Tickets from the door 16 €. Free entrance before 23:00. Welcome!

FRI 31/7 – Kaiku presents: Isabel Soto (VE)

Isabel Soto makes her Kaiku debut this Friday, on the 31st of July. The Venezuelan-born and Berlin-based DJ and producer has been steadily creating a sonic space with her atmospheric, textural, and panoramic take on techno. Disseminated through releases on revered techno label Ostgut Ton and her own NYXII Records as well as by touring all over the world, Isabel Soto has become renowned for building musical journeys that are simultaneously raw and intimate, masterfully sustaining and releasing energies on the dancefloor.

So heed this call and allow her to guide you through the mysterious end-of-July night, emerging into the first hours of August, somehow changed, as if hovering slightly above the ground. Opening the night are Helsinki hypno-delic masters of electronic music, Carlina Carpelan and Basit Soomro. And for further secrets embedded into obscure electronics, it’s CLUB//NEUROSIS with LTDream (DE), XP (LIVE) and Babybel in room two. It’s gonna be a deep dive, folks.

SAT 15/8 – Kaiku presents: Zombies In Miami (MX)

Although zombies are often portrayed as sluggish, vacuous, and, well, zombie-like in popular culture, Zombies In Miami are cut from a different cloth. See for yourself on the 15th of August as the duo from Mexico make their debut at Kaiku. Consisting of couple Cani & Jenouise, their infectious strain of tribal, driving, and encapsulating house and nu-disco has pivoted them from Latinoamérica to playing clubs all over the world and releasing records on labels like Love On The Rocks, Permanent Vacation, Running Back, and Live at Robert Johnson. Recent years have seen them start their own label, Creatures Of The Night, through which their own and other like-minded artists’ music is being transmitted to discerning ears everywhere.

For a good glimpse of what the Zombies In Miami sound is about, listen to 2024’s The Rhythm, a pumping tour de force of percussive house that nestles in your eardrums, creeps into your spine and takes hold of your limbs, causing involuntary movements throughout the night hours. Who would’ve thought that the first order of business in the midst of a zombie invasion is so simple: dance. In room one, Zombies In Miami are joined by Trevor Deep Jr. Room two to be announced.

Limited amount of advance tickets 13 € via Eventual. Tickets from the door 6 € before 23:00, 17 € after. Welcome!

SAT 25/7 – XT4CY: Lil Tony & Hanna Ojanen

Great minds think alike, they say, and this already-a-classic pairing affirms the old saying. It’s the joyous and the boisterous Lil Tony and Hanna Ojanen, under the banner of XT4CY, on Saturday the 25th. Those who have been to the previous iterations of XT4CY know that it’s not about one particular sound, but rather a sonic burst of warmth that transforms its shapes continuously, transcending altitudes, seeking expression in the form of dancing bodies melting into each other.

It is, however, safe to guess that there will be house, disco, and trance coalescing into one balmy wave sweeping over you in the mystical embrace of a late-July night. Alongside XT4CY, there’s HYPERGASM in room two with ddj400hypersl*ts.

Limited amount of advance tickets 10 € via Eventual. Tickets from the door 14 €. Free entrance before 23:00. Welcome!

FRI 24/7 – Kaiku presents: Blawan – DJ Set (UK)

This Friday, it’s finally time for Blawan to come and blow Kaiku to smithereens. He is well known for exploring the murkier ends of techno, as exemplified by his 2012 hit “Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?” and his canonical 2011 releases on R&S Records. Whether through his collaborations with Pariah as Karenn, with Surgeon as Trade, or going at it alone, Blawan delivers to devastating effect.

Today he continues on a singular exploration of what techno can be. Instead of the formulaic four-to-the-floor pummel, 2025’s album ’SickElixir’ is a whirlwind of industrial, metal, noise, and decades of knowledge of electronic music, out of which moments of tremendous beauty and personal expression emerge. Recent collaborations with the likes of Skrillex testify that Blawan is on the move evermore, remaining one of the most intriguing producers out there. It doesn’t get much more visceral than this. Fittingly opening the night is the local spearheader of experimental electronics, Exploited Body. In room two, a similar ethos is propounded by Alternate Frequency with Kiik Amor – LIVE (UK), AngeLio & Kiik Amor (Performance), Oikam Orim and Kaero.

FRI 14/8 – Kaiku presents: DJ Babatr (VE)

A glorious return takes place on August the 14th as the originator of Raptor House, DJ Babatr, wreaks havoc in Kaiku again. Babatr was one of the leading forces in creating the sound at the parties he organized in the barrios of Caracas, Venezuela around the turn of the millennium. After a hiatus of some fifteen years, his early productions have been unearthed by new and hungry ears which has led to him touring around the world in recent years. And rightfully so, as it’s hard to imagine anyone not getting whipped into a frenzy by the rabid blend of afro-latin rhythms, ghetto house, and trance which create the Raptor House backbone. In the past few years, Babatr has also been producing new tracks to much acclaim, which goes to show that his creative fountain is far from running dry. Those who were present last year as DJ Babatr tore Kaiku to shreds in April know this, and the rest will find out that a raptor’s bite doesn’t wear off easily. The primary symptoms are an early onset of pummeling percussion and a lasting feeling of euphoria that doesn’t seem to settle down. In room one, joining us will be Sala and nea2k, and room two will have HYPERGASM, courtesy of DDJ400hypersl*ts.

SAT 18/7 – I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMBADI

You know how sometimes an irresistible urge arises, seemingly out of nowhere? You look into the mirror with scrutiny and blurt it out: I Wanna Dance With SomBadi. Well, fear not, as on the 18th of July, the hallowed and highly anticipated club night returns to Kaiku. Helmed by SomBadi, the enigmatic and explosive DJ who has been rising in recent years like mercury in late June; playing steadily all over Finland and abroad to growing recognition. And for good reason, a SomBadi set covers so much ground you’d think you’re dealing with a land surveyor. House, rap, afrobeat, various shades of bass music, the freshest edits, and a big pinch of the unexpected are key ingredients you’ll encounter but it’s not just eclectic, it’s also highly effective: bodies moving is guaranteed.

A sample of his good taste is also to be found in the guests he’s invited for the night: you have the Parisian powerhouse and heat peddler DJ Four By Four, the volatile DJ HBL of the much-loved party institution Guilty Pleasures, and the percussive miracle Jonttu Luhtavaara of the pop sensation Kuumaa. And to add more fuel to the flames, room two hosts Club NewEra, hot hotter hottest.

Supergloss’ Space Office double EP from last year is a true love letter to the genre, released on the iconic ’90s trance label Noom Records, invigorating a classic sound with a fresh touch.

Other cherries of this ensemble cast are the Stockholm rave queen Nina Michelle, MALLA with a nonstop summer club remix of her irresistible live set, as well as a hefty lineup of local fruits: Mary Young, DJ WUF, Rizzo, Sala, and YEBO. SAT 11/7 – Summer League

This Saturday at Kaiku, a real who’s who of contemporary Helsinki electronic music movers and shakers takes place, all coming together under the banner of Summer League. You might remember a couple of summers ago when Summer League, also known as Club Zero, held court at Kaiku on summer Wednesdays to much acclaim. Well, now you can take that and multiply it with extremely large numbers and what you get is a recipe for one raucous and rowdy Saturday. Music-wise, it’s going to be a glorious banquet, the main course will be techno, but prepared with experimental methods. At the center of the table there’s a live set by Misa that will be surrounded by a meticulously curated array of DJ sets, filling both rooms one and two: Niko Demus, DJ GL4 aka Glayden, MFM, una b2b Katerina, Joni DJ, Monokromatiko, Saint Nia, and Mechanic. That’s the whole peanut gallery right there, and as far as line-ups go, they really don’t go much harder than that. Off we go.

22:00-04:00 INDOORS

FRI 10/7 – Kaiku presents: Anish Kumar (UK)

On Friday the 10th of July, a rising star from London appears on the Kaiku stratosphere. Going by the name of Anish Kumar, he is the culprit behind a slew of highly infectious tracks that have been garnering deserved attention in the hands of DJ’s like Daphni and Bonobo as well as spotlighted by NPR and Pitchfork. A beautiful blend of chugging house, hearty disco, samples from Bollywood soundtracks and ballistic Northern Soul, all infused with a debonair touch – these are songs with summer written all over them. Recent collaboration with Grammy-winning Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab, a ghostly rendition of Eurythmics’ 1983 hit Sweet Dreams, is a perfect example of this; contemporary club sounds imbued with deep South Asian influences resulting in instant dancefloor euphoria.

Kumar is, however, no one-track pony as evidenced by the four volumes of four-track AK Cuts EPs released in the span of one year. In his DJ sets, Kumar allows his vast influences to come to the fore, moving seamlessly from Hindustani deep cuts to African boogie and Tokyo City Pop, all fleshed out with the technical prowess his productions attest to. It would appear that Kumar is just getting started and this July Friday is a great chance to come experience it first-hand. Local support in room one comes from Victoria. In room two, it’s Club Whatever with trabelsi, k414 b2b BINA BB, vilja valle, and g-angel.

Limited amount of advance tickets 12 € via Eventual. Tickets from the door 16 €. Free entrance before 23:00. Welcome!
