made a post about a recent UFC fight that ended via knockout after threw a beautiful lead hook + rear straight combo. Here’s an old tutorial of mine of a similar technique. 🤌

Hook with a step, feint the hook and surprise with a rear cross down the pipe.
👊 Keep the hooks easy
👊 Heavy stance, no pivot
👊 Be unpredictable
👊 Push with the rear foot
👊 Start easy; don’t try too hard

This is a good way to set up the rear straight. Best way to hit with it is to wait for your opponent to either open their guard because of the hook feint or start coming at you. Boom!

Works well against an opponent in the same stance, but is even better against the opposite stance. 🔥

James “Lights Out” Toney is one of the very best Philly Shell boxers of all time.

He used it both in defence and offense. Attacking and staying in the pocket while not having the hands up requires a lot of focus, confidence and the ability to see when the opponent is attacking. Skills pay the bills.

In this clip Toney stops Tim Littles in 1994. Flat feet and bending at the waist work like a charm. Such a beautiful display of effortless boxing skill. Take notes and understand that there’s so much more than just the regular high guard in boxing/fighting. 🔥

The same combination done in different ways.

1️⃣ The basic jab+cross+hook. In the end of the video there’s an easy way to test if your lead hook is indeed powerful and steady (and if your “hips are engaged”). If you want to pivot, just do it and find out how weak your base and punch really are. 😳

2️⃣ Sometimes you fight a guy you just can’t reach, because he’s taller and/or can move backwards just enough or is just a tricky bast**d. Try to surprise him with this version of the classic 1-2-3 combination, but hide and time it well. A right hand can be easily added after the hook if needed. 🔥

3️⃣ Sometimes you fight a guy who holds a tight high guard and rushes forward with quick punches. This version of the jab+cross+hook might work against someone who rushes forward a lot. Lure him to charge with the 1-2 and surprise with a wide hook. Right hand can be easily added after the left hook. 🔥

Pro MMA fighters & training how to keep the chin down, use shoulders for blocking hooks and then counter.

These mid-range technique drills help to find & keep a proper posture and hold the chin down. First video is from the square stance and the second from the bladed boxing stance.

1️⃣ Block the hooks with your shoulders, move your weight away from the punch to the side.
3️⃣ Counter.
4️⃣ Increase speed and power little by little.
5️⃣ After these are easy, add some footwork and make it more complex.
