When I first started training, there were only a few gyms around — and those were true hardcore gyms. They were places where people came to push their limits, lift heavy, and build real strength. Today, things have changed. What we see now are not really gyms but fitness facilities. In England, for example, you can find gyms that charge 15 or 20 pounds a month, offering endless rows of treadmills and cardio machines. They look impressive, but most of the people inside don’t even look like they train seriously. A gym should be a place where you lift weights, test yourself, and give it everything you’ve got — even if that means shouting or screaming from the effort. That’s what real training is all about.
