Welcome to the official page for World Rowing Masters. A rower may compete as a Masters rower from the beginning of the year during which he or she turns 27.

Masters rowers are then placed in categories A-J, A being an average of 27 years or over, and J being an average of 80 years or over. Dependent on the age they turn that year, the Masters rower will then compete against others with the same average age in the respective category. The average and minimum age of a crew competing excludes that of the coxswain. The aim of a Masters rower can be to com

pete at the World Rowing Masters Regatta. Master rowers can be former elite rowers, or absolute beginners who only began rowing aged 27 or above. Masters rowing also focuses on the health and fitness benefits of rowing, socializing and forming friendships.

Another full day of Masters racing on the lake — thousands of rowers, hundreds of races and plenty of battles all the way to the finish.

Here are some of our favorite moments on the water from Day 4 of the 2026 World Rowing Masters Regatta. 💪

For more than 25 years, World Rowing Masters have been helping open the door to the next generation.

Today’s Masters rowers are helping shape tomorrow’s Olympians. 🫶🚣

Through the Masters-to-Youth Rowing Initiative, €1 from every seat entered at the World Rowing Masters Regatta supports youth rowing — helping athletes and developing rowing nations get to the World Rowing U19 Championships.

And the impact can extend far beyond one race.

In 2026, Ugandan rower Marcel Otim raced at U19 Worlds in Plovdiv. His experience inspired him to train harder and dream bigger.

But there’s more.

A school back home saw Marcel’s progress and has now started its own rowing programme.

One opportunity became an opportunity for many more.

That’s the power of Masters rowing. ❤️

The rowers racing in Bled have spent decades building a life around this sport. Now, they’re helping the next generation build theirs.

And who knows where that journey leads?

“We might be at the Olympics in 2032.” 🇺🇬🏅

What happens when the competitive career ends?

For Ronald Chen, the answer has always been: you stay in rowing.

For more than four decades, Chen has been a rower, umpire, volunteer and advocate for the sport. For the past 24 years, he has also helped shape the future of Masters rowing as a member of the World Rowing Masters Commission.

He remembers a time when Masters Regatta entries were handled with faxes and yellow pads. Today, thousands of athletes from around the world come to compete at a World Rowing Masters Regatta.

But for Chen, the biggest story isn’t the growth in numbers or technology.

It’s the people.

Masters rowers are athletes, coaches, club leaders, officials, organisers and volunteers. They keep clubs going, bring new generations into the sport and carry rowing into communities around the world.

They are athletes for life. And increasingly, they are ambassadors for rowing.

Memorably moody Day 3 in Bled. 🌊🚣‍♀️

Another huge day on Lake Bled — thousands of rowers, packed start lines, hard racing, and plenty of moments worth remembering.

From the first boats heading out in the morning mist to the celebrations back on shore with the sun coming back out on the latter half of the sesson, Day 3 had it all.

And somehow, we’re just over halfway through.

Two weeks. Two worlds. Four races. Four golds. 🥇🥇🥇🥇

Less than two weeks after racing for Germany at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, 27-year-old Nora Peuser is back on the start line in Bled — this time racing at the World Rowing Masters Regatta with her club teammates.

And so far? She hasn’t lost.

But for Nora, Masters rowing is about much more than the medals. It’s a chance to race without the pressure of elite competition, spend time with friends, and simply enjoy being in a boat.

“I just really love the sport,” she says. “When everyone in the boat is working together, and the boat is running really well, that’s what keeps me coming back.”

With five more races still to come, Nora is just getting started.

🌧️ Who decides if it’s safe to race?

At 4am on Day 2, while most of the 4,700 rowers at Lake Bled were still asleep, Jure Jerman was already watching the weather.

Thunderstorms had moved into the region. His radar was open. Lightning data was being checked every few minutes. The decision was simple in theory: race, wait, or stop?

In practice, it takes 32 years of meteorological experience, an understanding of Lake Bled’s weather — and a very good understanding of rowers.

Jure has provided weather support at everything from ski jumping at Planica to rowing on this lake. He first worked at a World Rowing event here in 2010. His son watched that regatta and eventually took up rowing himself.

Now, 16 years later, Jure is helping keep the biggest Masters Regatta on the water.

The rain may have come down hard this week, but the racing — and the spirit around Bled — has kept going. 🌦️

🌧️ Day 2 at Bled: wet, wet, wet.

The rain came down hard today, but it takes more than a very soggy Lake Bled to keep Masters rowers away from the water.

Nearly 4,700 competitors are here this week, and they’re making the most of every opportunity to get out there, race, cheer each other on and enjoy one of the biggest rowing regattas ever held.

The boat park may be soaked. The umbrellas may be working overtime. But the smiles are still there. 😄
