The summer break is almost over, and Bushinkan Dojo is getting ready to step back onto the mat!
Our new class season begins Tuesday, September 8th, and we're welcoming new students of all ages.
CHILDREN'S CLASS
Tuesdays & Thursdays
6:00–7:15 PM
Ages 5–14
Our children's program helps develop confidence, discipline, coordination, respect and self-control in a fun and supportive environment.
🔥 ADULT CLASS
Tuesdays & Thursdays
7:30–9:00 PM
Ages 14+
Whether you're completely new to martial arts or have previous experience, you're welcome on the mat.
Yoshinkan Aikido develops confidence, discipline, fitness, coordination and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

What a great day. All three Nova Scotia dojos were in attendance today at the Bushinkan's seminar. Many thanks to everyone who made the trip here.

A special thanks to Sensei Jamie Corlett for helping me teach. His understanding of Aikido and his excellent instruction made this a day to remember.

The Gap Between “I Can’t” and “I’m Actually Good at This”

Every black belt remembers their first class.

They remember feeling awkward. They remember forgetting techniques, struggling to coordinate their movements, and wondering if they would ever be able to do what the senior students made look so effortless.

The truth is that everyone begins in the same place.

The gap between "I can't do this" and "I'm actually good at this" is not talent. It is not natural ability. It is not being stronger, faster, or younger than everyone else.

The gap is time and a willingness to struggle.

At Bushinkan Dojo, we understand that progress is not measured by perfection. It is measured by showing up. Every class attended, every technique practiced, every fall taken and every challenge faced becomes another step forward on the journey.

Yoshinkan Aikido teaches more than self-defence. It develops discipline, confidence, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Students learn that growth happens when they move beyond what is comfortable and embrace the learning process.

Whether you are stepping onto the mat for the very first time or returning after years away, you do not need to be good to start.

You only need the courage to begin.

🥋 BUSHINKAN DOJO SUMMER SEMINAR 🥋

Join us for a special day of Aikido training at Bushinkan Dojo in Stewiacke featuring two experienced 5th Dan instructors:

Sensei Todd Fleck (5th Dan)
Sensei Jamie Corlett (5th Dan)

Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or looking to broaden your understanding of Aikido, this seminar offers an excellent opportunity to train, learn, and share the mat with fellow martial artists.

📅 Date: July 18
📍 Location: Bushinkan Dojo, Stewiacke

⏰ Training Sessions:
• 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
• 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
• 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM

💲 Cost: Free Will Donation
All proceeds will be donated to the Stewiacke Legion in support of local veterans and community programs.

🌭 Post-Seminar BBQ 🌭
Following the seminar, all participants are invited to a BBQ and social gathering at Sensei Todd Fleck's home. Enjoy some great food, relax after a day on the mat, and spend time with fellow martial artists in a welcoming atmosphere.

This seminar is open to Aikidoka of all experience levels. Come enjoy a day of quality instruction, spirited training, and camaraderie while supporting an important community organization.

Last night we had a great night for visitors. Sensei Greg Pun from Edmonton stopped in for a visit as well as Sensei Jamie Corlett from Halifax.
