NEW BRUNSWICK HAS SPOKEN. UNANIMOUSLY. 🇨
Today in Fredericton, MLA Mary Wilson presented Motion 42 in the New Brunswick Legislature — urging the Government of Canada to establish an Independent Military Honours Review Board to review veterans’ cases where evidence suggests Victoria Cross criteria were met.
Every single member of that Legislature voted yes.
New Brunswick is the fifth province to pass this motion unanimously. Saskatchewan. Ontario. Nova Scotia. Alberta. New Brunswick.
Five provinces. Every vote unanimous. Every party. One voice.
But here is the moment that stopped us in our tracks today.
In that gallery — watching history happen — was Jess Larochelle’s 94 - year-old grandfather. A Korean War veteran. A man who served this country decades ago and has never stopped serving it. He has been dealing with recent health issues. He came anyway. He was not going to miss this.
Think about what that man has seen in his 91 years. Think about what it means that he sat in that gallery today and watched a provincial legislature unanimously demand that his grandson’s country finally do right by him.
There are no words adequate for that moment. There are only tears and pride and the unshakeable conviction that this fight has always been exactly right.
To MLA Mary Wilson — thank you. You carried this with grace, conviction, and heart. New Brunswick is proud of you today.
To the veterans in that gallery — look at this photo. Look at these faces. These are the people this fight is for. These are the people who showed up. Again.
Two days until the federal government must respond. Two days.
Seven provinces are coming. 66,000 emails sent. 109 veterans organizations unified. The Senate. ACVA unanimous. Every institution in Canada has said yes except the federal government.
May 30th. They must answer.
