Hi team MES and Vancouver Island Equestrian hive mind… MES events coordinator here. Asking for some assistance. Here’s the scenario;

September 13th 2026 is Metchosin Community Day. We have the requirement to put on a crowd friendly demonstration or program for the event. In the past, we have done Drill team performances, Vaulting demonstrations, petting zoos, hobby horse building with a hobby horse parade and even a small WE schooling show.

This year’s event is getting planned with a few limitations. The Vaulters are competing in Vancouver this weekend and our local Drill team is not available. Most of the WE judges are away for WAWE Championships in Spain. This means I’m being left completely unattended… the “adults” are out of town. Our biggest limitations will be rider entry numbers with limitations on parking for the event. It’s a challenge, but doable. Want to cause some mischief with me?

Here’s the idea. We host a benefit jumper show with a Working Equitation speed round. All WE levels will be paired up with appropriate jumper heights. L1 speed rounds with ground pole or lead-line can be an option. Riders can sign up for “all rounder”, jumper or Working Equitation. Then we pair them randomly together. All rounders will have their own divisions. The fastest teams wins the beans. The courses will be set up together with only one rider competing at a time. Saturday the course will be set up and available for WE course walks and schooling, coaches with students allowed. Perfectly safe chaos with all the fun!

If we can find a dressage judge, I will be totally happy to include them into the mix with a trifecta team event.

All proceeds from this two day (or longer if Dressage wants to join the party) will go towards our stall building project.

Who’s interested? Who has ideas to help make this event even better? Does anyone want to partner up for this end of summer celebration? Message me or share them in the comments section and let’s get a party started!

Last minute additions for our summer schedule! We have an amazing (and affordable!) dressage clinic series for everyone. This series is in partnership with Two strides Forward Equestrian. It will provide riders (or in hand participants) an amazing opportunity to build their skills with Helgi Sangret and then with “homework” between each session. Sessions can be taken individually or as a group with a discount.

Registration, with all clinic details, is now open and found here:

Meet your clinician:

Helgi Sangret has been a certified coach for 20 years, and currently holds 4 different certifications. Her background includes dressage, eventing, Pony Club, natural horsemanship, starting and training horses, positive reinforcement training, therapeutic riding and para/dressage, and vaulting. Helgi enjoys blending French classical dressage principles with modern neuroscience and ethology and somatic biomechanics, all within a trauma-informed approach that is gentle and accessible for both horse and human.

"Public announcement" announcement for team
MES? Please add us to your email contacts.

Our poor secretary is having a hard time sending emails out to the membership, in particular those with Shaw email service... there's been a bit of chaos behind the scenes and we need your help. But don't worry, it's a simple fix.

Please add the [email protected] to your contacts list. Easy peasy! We have another clinic series about to be announced and don't want anyone to miss out. The social media accounts will continue to send out invites but the executive committee emails content will only be shared via email.

Thanks team!

ISO one horse that identifies as “Cinderella” 🦄🤣

Someone probably noticed that they lost a slipper (Easy boot) while dancing (walking) around the ball (the Metchosin wilderness park or “100 acre woods”). Good news, your Prince Charming (the entrance sign on Arden Road) is holding onto the missing fancy footwear.

If not re-situated on its appropriate dainty little foot (hoof) by Friday, the slipper will be brought back to the Castle (a neighborhood barn) for safe keeping until Cinderella is found.

Do you know our Cinderella or Cinderfella??? Can you message us to get a happily ever after???

Our Canada Day Mosaic course challenge is back and bringing some new obstacles to the party! All the horses and riders loved the experience last year. Sign up is here:

This “Mosaic” obstacle course will be comprised of elements from Mountain Trail Course, Working Equitation and Cowboy Challenge. It will be on a “Across Canadian provinces” path that takes participants through the arena in groups of up to 4. Groups will be in-hand or ridden with a blend of capabilities for everyone to help cheer and support each other on course. You will have 30 minutes to practice the obstacles before starting the judged portion of the course. This is not a “serious show”. Costumes are strongly encouraged, judging is completely subjective and all efforts are applauded. We are here for celebrating horse and human ethical training relationships. All styles of tack are permitted (Western, English, Endurance, bit less, etc). Helmets and appropriate footwear are mandatory for riders. Prizes and event stickers will be available for all participants.

Are you up for the challenge this Canada Day?

Good morning team MES!

A friendly reminder that the Metchosin Farmers Market season is back in our community area. Our friends at the farmers market are busy! We are cheering for them and their continued success and want to continue to support them as much as possible. This means that trailer parking on Sundays from 10:00-2:00 is a bit of a challenge. Please be aware that they are doing their best keeping our trailer parking open, but shoppers are not always aware of this requirement. 😅

Let’s do our best to continue to be great neighbours. This may mean sharing our parking or being prepared for high traffic congestion in the area on Sundays. Please plan accordingly and maybe adjust your schedule to avoid the situation entirely. Hit the market without the trailer, then come back for a peaceful ride in the afternoon or evening? Any formal MES events planned for Sundays this summer will have extra notice to the Metchosin Producers Association and traffic control included in our plans.

We love the Farmers Market and are super appreciative of their sharing of the facilities for our Equine Market held there this spring. Let’s continue to keep our partnership growing. 🤠🥕🦄
