Smith Lake Farm has something for everyone — kid-friendly, family-friendly, and full of farm fun.

Every stay includes access to our favourite experiences: beekeeping tours, disc golf on our top-rated course, paddle boarding, lake swimming and time to simply enjoy the farm.

Our glamping sites are set up for families of up to five, and we love hosting groups with shared BBQ areas, a playground and plenty of space to gather around the fire.

A pretty cool behind-the-scenes look at one of the more complicated beekeeping jobs happening at the farm right now 🐝

Our new farm manager Elizabeth is learning on the job with these mating nucs and doing a fabulous at it! 😅
These colonies loaded with worker bees and one queen cell each are part of important work. We are doing here at the farm. Carefully selected genetics from queens bred for:
• Varroa Sensitive Hygiene (VSH)
• strong overwintering ability in West Coast conditions
• sustainable local genetics

These nucs are headed to an isolated mating yard deep in the forests near Sayward, BC where the queens will mate with drones from more carefully selected VSH stock.

This work is a huge part of building stronger local bee populations and reducing reliance on imported bees — something that helps lower the risk of bringing in pests and diseases that could seriously impact beekeeping as we know it.

A lot of people see the honey side of beekeeping… but this kind of breeding and stock development work is one of the most important things happening behind the scenes for long-term food security and resilient local agriculture 🌱🍯
