Such a great day to do electric fencing. The upper paddock (some equipment are stored) is seriously overgrown and we don’t have time to cut it. Solution…bring in self-propelled lawnmower….aka horses and cows.
Of course we did the traditional crossover to the new paddock with Teacup. The other horses couldn’t figure out how to get there so we had to show them the path.
We finished the fencing and chores by 4pm. The rain didn’t come until 5:30pm so it was a great productive day even though I was battling the after effects of a bout of vertigo in the early morning.

Sadly our first horse🐴 show was cancelled tomorrow 😢 but we still did the prep work so we had less to do come the next ...

Sadly our first horse🐴 show was cancelled tomorrow 😢 but we still did the prep work so we had less to do come the next show.
For the trailer:
✅ show halters and leads cleaned, conditioned, metal buffed and stored.
✅ water tanks and buckets loaded.
✅ hay bags set.
✅ chairs, canopy, spare halter, leadshank, lunge line, first aid kit, manure rake, saddle stand, mounting block and other items loaded.
✅ trailer cleaned and bedded down.

We took a lemon 🍋 and made lemonade 😁

Another gorgeous evening 😍. My barn has become a wildlife refuge. A momma and baby squirrel 🐿️ decided to make an appearance. Now I know how the walnuts in barn got in 🤦🏼‍♀️😆
It was great evening to continue our training for the upcoming show and overall skills development with our coach. I forgot my phone in the barn 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️.

A beautiful evening to work on show patterns. We are training for first Show this Saturday.
I decided my warmup for the patterns was trotting a weave both ways…dabbling in pole bending 😜
Jewel looked so bored when Lacey started practicing the showmanship patterns with her. Jewel knew the trail pattern by heart by this point that she looks half a sleep when Lacey was doing trail-in-hand. I was practicing the trail and western equitation patterns in saddle.
It was a great evening. Definitely looking forward to days like these.

So to help repel flies, we are using garlic infused salt blocks that our cows lick, but also our horses can as well. I was just talking to a cattle farmer yesterday. He had told me he’s using it and used it last year and there was a massive reduction of flies on his cows and also on the manure. If you’re looking for garlic infused salt blocks, these are the big ones, you can get them at Baker’s in Portland and I know they have quite a bit.
