Balance isn’t something you’re born with. It’s something you need to practice and build.

If you are shaky and struggling with lunges, split squats or single leg RDL’s focus on the basics:

1. Know where your foot is landing
2. Be aware of your weight distribution through your foot
3. Practice balance intentionally
4. Use support when you need it then progress gradually

Split squats are one of the best exercise’s for building, lower body strength, improving balance, and addressing side to side imbalances.

Coach Joel Robinson💪

Joel’s approach to training is all about building a body that performs at a high level both inside and outside the gym.

From mountain biking, hockey, hiking, obstacle course racing, and strength training, Joel has spent years pushing himself through a wide variety of athletic challenges. He has been training seriously since the age of 14, originally starting to improve his performance in sports like hockey, basketball, volleyball, and martial arts.

Over the years, his training has evolved into a hybrid approach. Combining strength, conditioning, hypertrophy, power, and mobility to create well-rounded athletes and long-term results.

Joel’s certifications and continued education include:
• NSPA Certifications (currently working toward Master Trainer Certification)
• Brookbush Institute Personal Trainer
• Human Movement Specialist

His coaching philosophy is centered around helping people stay strong, capable, and athletic as they age, proving it’s never too late to bring back your inner athlete.

Struggling to hit depth in your squats? Elevating your heels with a wedge or small weight plate can help improve your range of motion and make squats feel smoother and stronger.

This can be especially helpful if:
• You have limited ankle mobility
• You’re taller and struggle staying upright
• You want to squat deeper with better form

At the same time, don’t forget to keep working on mobility in your ankles, knees, and hips so your body can move properly long term. A wedge is a tool to help, not a replacement for mobility work.
