Happy 99th Birthday to Leander Boat Club! ππ£
Officially incorporated on May 28, 1927, Leander has spent nearly a century building a legacy on the waters of Hamilton Harbour. From representing Canada at the British Empire Games and four consecutive Olympic Games, to developing national team athletes, Olympians, and generations of rowers, the club has played an important role in Canadian rowing history.
Leander has overcome devastating fires, relocations, and decades of change while continuing to grow the sport and strengthen the rowing community in Hamilton. The addition of womenβs rowing in the 1970s helped shape the future of the club and elevate the sport for generations to come.
Today, Leander continues to thrive through its Learn to Row, recreational, high school, university, masters, and competitive programs β creating opportunities for athletes of all ages and experience levels.
Hereβs to 99 years of community, tradition, and rowing excellence, and to the next chapter ahead. π
And keep an eye on our social media as we begin looking ahead to Leanderβs 100th anniversary celebrations next year! π
