Crude Strength and Performance The Oilsands Strongman/Strongwoman Classic is a Strength competition in Fort McMurray. We run many Strength events and demonstrations throughout the year.

Our goal is to have fun and interesting events that you won't see anywhere else, and to have the best trophies around! Events are free for spectators to come and watch so look for our events all over town, we run many Strength events and demonstrations throughout the year.

Fort McMurray showing up strong at the ABS Powerlifting Meet in Niagara Falls! 💪🏆

On June 6, Fort McMurray’s own Cody Sheppard put together an incredible performance, capturing 1st place in the Men’s Division at the ABS Powerlifting meet in Niagara Falls. Cody posted massive numbers across all three lifts:

🔥 Squat: 706 lbs (320 kg)
🔥 Bench Press: 408 lbs (185 kg)
🔥 Deadlift: 727 lbs (330 kg)
🔥 Total: 1,841 lbs (835 kg)

Congratulations to Cody and everyone representing Fort McMurray on the national stage. Northern Alberta strength was on full display in Niagara Falls this weekend! 💥🇨🇦

The 2026 Oil Sands Classic Strongman events are here, and prep starts now. Rules and weights will be announced at a later date, but these are the events and the order they will run in:

• Hoist
• Log Press for Reps
• Axle Deadlift for Reps
• Yoke into Farmers
• Atlas Stones to Platform Medley

Every rep, every run, and every training session starts building now. September will come fast.

Thursday to our 2022 competition in Fort McMurray — and if you look closely, there’s a little hint hiding in this video about one of the events coming back 👀💪

The Oil Sands Classic has always been about big weights, hard work, good people, and creating a show that athletes and spectators remember long after the last event is done. Looking back at these clips reminds me how far this competition has come and how much support this community continues to pour into strength sports in Northern Alberta.

A lot has changed since 2022, but one thing hasn’t — we’re still building events that test grit, strength, and the ability to keep pushing when things get heavy. Some familiar faces, some unforgettable moments, and maybe a small clue about what competitors can expect next time around 👀

Hey everyone! We’re super excited to announce that our team from Oilsands Classic / Fort Mac Strongman will be at Sport Wood Buffalo’s Girls with GRIT event on Sunday, May 24th!

We’re running fun, empowering “Strong Girls” sessions throughout the day in Fieldhouse 2:
• 10:30 – 11:20 am
• 12:00 – 12:45 pm
• 1:00 – 1:45 pm

Come try strongman-style training made for girls ages 8-13!

We’ll be capping the competition at 40 athletes, so if you’re thinking about competing — now’s the time to get in.
