Premier Tony Wakeham’s decision to not participate in the federal fi****ms buyback program is the right call.

This quarter of a billion dollar program is not only a waste of money, but also completely ineffective in addressing crime. In reality, this program targets legal firearm owners and hunters, and fails to crack down on criminals.

Newfoundlanders and Labradorians use their guns for hunting, sport and other legitimate uses. Criminals will not line up to surrender their illegal and smuggled weapons

I agree with Premier Wakeham, the resources that will be poured into this program would be better spent as investments in crime prevention and law enforcement.

Thank you, Premier, for once again standing up for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
