Hey Mini Camper Parents!

Coach Taelor here👋🏽 I just wanted to say thank you for an amazing summer!

We worked hard, cheered each other on, learned through play and had some amazing visitors for Work It Wednesday - The Garbage Truck and STEAM Cranbrook were definitely a couple favourites! 

Most importantly Coach Moraya, Heather and I saw lots of brave, confident, silly, helpful and kind kiddos! I think every one of us, kids and coaches, walked away from camp with smiles from ear to ear!
I hope your kids enjoyed camp as much as we did! 

The fun of mini campers doesn’t end there though - did you know that Key City Gymnastics offers a Gym & Learn program through the year?
Gym & Learn is run and offered the same days/times as mini campers - same great program only the name of the program is different!

Summer Camp Week Five - Music Makers! 🎶🎼🎵

It’s been a couple weeks since we’ve recapped! Here’s what you missed - we had another great week of learning, playing, fun, friends and a super great and engaging Work it Wednesday detailed below!! ☀️

Work it Wednesday! 🎵
This week our campers had a visit from Caitlin, an opera singer, musical theatre performer and music director!

We explored the differed parts, tempos, themes, sounds and feels of classical music through the years!

Drawing what we feel to the sound of music is a great way to slow down, check in and reset!

Some songs made us happy, some sad, others a little crazy but we all had a blast getting out of our comfort zone with Caitlin!

“Caitlin McCaughey loves the stage, especially while performing operetta and musical theatre. Favourite roles include Josephine in HMS Pinafore, Elsa Shraeder in The Sound of Music, and the three incarnations of “M” in Perchance to Dream. 

As a featured artist, Caitlin has performed with the Symphony of the Kootenay in 2020, 2024, and 2026. She has recently dipped a toe into the teaching world as music director for MBSS’ production of SpongeBob the Musical, and as vocal director at the Key City Theatre’s Triple Threat Camp. 

Caitlin holds a Bachelor of Arts (history), Bachelor of Music, and Post-graduate Diploma of Opera.”

✨ Why Progress in Gymnastics Sometimes Looks “Slow” ✨

One of the biggest questions we get is:
“Why is my child still in the same level?”

Here’s the truth ⬇️
Gymnastics isn’t about rushing to the next level. It’s about building a strong foundation—just like building a house. 🏠 If the base isn’t solid, everything above it will crumble.

✅ Skills must be safe, strong, and consistent before moving up.
✅ Athletes develop “invisible skills” too—like strength, confidence, form, and discipline.
✅ Every child’s journey is unique. Some fly through early levels, others take more time—but both paths can lead to incredible growth.

So if your child stays in a level longer than expected, that’s not a setback—it’s an investment in their future success and safety. 💪🤸‍♀️

Remember: progress isn’t measured only by new levels—it’s measured in stronger cartwheels, straighter handstands, more confidence, and the joy of saying, “I did it!” 🎉

Shine Bright Camp starts TOMORROW!! ⭐️🩷

We can’t wait to see everyone, make new friends and do some big gymnastics! We’ve got so much fun planned - it’s going to be a fantastic week!

Reminder to all of our Jr Gym and Recreational campers that there are no camps this week! Enjoy a week off and we will see you back in the gym Monday, August 17th!

Who’s excited for gymnastics this fall?! 🤸🏻‍♀️❤️

Registration is opening MONDAY! We are so excited about what we have planned for this year! We have made some changes, we have some incredible coaches stepping up into our programming and we can’t wait to learn with all of the kiddos that walk through the gym doors!

Summer Camp Week Four - Going Green! 🚛💚

We had SO much fun last week at camp - we learned about keeping our planet clean and green, made new friends and gained some new skills! Key City Summer Camps are half way over - we can’t wait to see what the rest of summer brings! ☀️

Work it Wednesday! 🚛

This week we learned from Sunny who taught us all about his garbage truck! The kids had so much fun learning how to use all of the gears, lift the garbage cans into the truck and even honking the horn a couple times! This Work it Wednesday is always a crowd favourite - thank you Sunny for coming to teach our campers about your truck!!
