Volunteering doesn’t just help a nonprofit — it strengthens the people who keep it alive.

Today, Dunnill’s Diving Services stepped up at the Lakeland Humane Society. Not because we had to, but because organizations like this one need me and you.

Staff burnout is real in animal care. You can only witness so much suffering, so much need for love, before it starts to wear you down. That’s why volunteers matter. They’re the extra hands, the extra heartbeats, the extra hope that keeps the animals healthy and the staff supported.

And helping doesn’t require anything extraordinary. It looks like:

• Walking the dogs — giving them exercise, confidence, and joy
• Quiet time with the cats and puppies — reminding them they’re safe and loved
• Pitching in with maintenance — keeping the buildings and grounds in good shape so staff can focus on care

We all have the desire to help someone or something. So why not help here?

Remember: the smallest deed outshines the greatest intention.
See you out there.

Ever go for a dive, spot a lure on the bottom, and think, “…what were they even trying to catch out here?”
Today was one of those days. Found a few that made me stop and stare like I’d just discovered evidence of questionable decision‑making.

Water was brisk but honestly pretty enjoyable — that perfect Cold Lake wake‑up.
Who else managed to get out today and see what the lake was up to?

When we rent the pool, we’re always grateful to have the lifeguards watching over us. It only makes sense to include them in what we do—showing them our gear, how it works, and how to safely assist a diver in distress. Building that understanding keeps everyone safer and strengthens the partnership between our teams.

This weekend, during the Bronze Medallion Lifeguard course at the Bonnyville Swimming Pool, we had the opportunity to share our world with them. Our divers showcased their equipment, and the lifeguards were able to practice with one of our Dive Master candidates. You can see Sean speaking with them, walking through the gear and the process with patience and clarity.

Tomorrow morning, we’ll be at The Bonnyville Swimming Pool from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Sunday, May 24th) to complete the final confined‑water dives for our Open Water students. This session brings together the skills they’ve been developing and prepares them for a safe and confident transition into open water.

We also welcome certified divers who want to shake off the winter rust and get ready for the upcoming season.
The drop‑in rate is $10 per certified diver, or $20 for a certified diver and tank.

Please contact us early to ensure we bring a tank for you.

“Dive season is here — make sure your tanks are ready before you hit the water.

Take a moment to check that your hydrostatic test is up to date and your visual inspection sticker is current and legible.

• Hydros must be done by an authorized testing facility, and depending on demand, expect a turnaround of 48 hours or more.
• Visuals can usually be completed within a few hours by most dive agencies, though delays happen during busy periods.

Preparation is key in diving — staying ahead on your tank maintenance saves you time, money, and frustration, and keeps every dive day running smooth and safe.

Let’s start the season ready.”

Tomorrow morning, our Open Water Scuba students begin the next step in their journey as they move into confined‑water training—better known as the pool. This is where all their eLearning comes to life, and where they start developing a skill most people will never experience: the ability to breathe comfortably underwater.

We also welcome certified divers to join us in the pool—separate from the students—to refresh their skills and prepare for the upcoming dive season. Let us know if you need a tank!

What a day in Bonnyville — the momentum is real.
We made the rounds today, meeting with multiple local businesses about sponsoring our upcoming Diving for Debris Day at Vezeau Beach, and the support has been incredible.

Cold Lake Divers are thrilled to officially partner with:

• Sobeys Bonnyville
• Tim Hortons Bonnyville
• Bonnyville Golf & Country Club
As well as the Bonnyville Swimming pool

These community leaders are stepping up in a big way to help us clean Moose Lake and make a real impact.

After our meetings, we headed out to Vezeau Beach hoping to get a dive in and gather some early data on the types of debris we might encounter. The lake had other plans — there’s still a surprising amount of ice tucked along the beach side. With this stretch of beautiful weather, we’ll give it a few more days and try again soon.

The excitement is building, the partnerships are growing, and Moose Lake is getting closer to shining again. Cold Lake Divers is on the move.

We joined the Cold Lake Divers at the Bonnyville Swimming Pool today, and what a session! 🤿
Our students had an absolute blast knocking out their basic skills, so we decided to spice things up—adding a few extra skills they’ll need when they hit their open water course. Then we topped it off with some fun activities. Why? Because why not! We were in the water, everyone was smiling, and it worked 🔥

Side note: this is our first year teaching divers under 18, and wow… what an experience. They’re so engaged, adapt incredibly fast, and bring an awesome energy to every session. Teaching them has been an absolute joy.

Cold Lake Divers had a fantastic turnout, and we even welcomed a visitor from Lloydminster. We can’t wait for Megan to come back this summer and check out our playground 🌊

Bubble up! 🫧
