Molly works hard every shift. She is coachable, she reads the ice before the play happens, and she uses her speed in both directions. She creates offensive opportunities going forward and gets back hard every time to pressure opposing players and protect her team. Her hockey IQ is what makes her effective throughout the whole game, not just in moments.

Off the ice, she was in the stands at the Ontario Summer Games 2026, cheering on her older sister competing in women’s ice hockey.

Chelsea Court is the head coach of the Her-ricanes 2027.

She has been around this game long enough to know what it actually gives players. Not everyone takes hockey to the next level. But the game teaches you things that go far beyond the rink. Friendships. Discipline. Opportunities that shape who you become.

Ava has been playing hockey since she was five years old. It is her passion, and every time she steps on the ice, she gives 100%. She plays a smart, defensive game; protecting her goalie, making the right play, and putting her team first. She now plays U15 AAA with the Western Warriors.

Off the ice, she is competing on the soccer field and the basketball court.

Scouts are watching. Coaches are watching. And things get around.

Sam Cogan on why character matters just as much as skill. She’s seen coaches choose a player with the right attitude over one who puts up more points, and she means it. Being a good teammate, showing up the right way, competing hard in all three zones, that is what gets you a long way in this game.

Skill gets you noticed. Character keeps you in the room.

Gabriella has been chasing this game since she was five years old, inspired by her brother and what she saw on TV. She started skating at three, and has spent the last five years competing at the elite and competitive level, now playing U15AA with the Rocky Mountain Raiders in the AFHL. She plays fast, and her speed, shot, and hockey IQ are what set her apart.

Off the ice, she’s making pizza with her great-grandma.

Ashley brings experience at every level of the game, from playing to coaching, and she shows up for her athletes the same way she showed up as a player. Her ability to connect, challenge, and develop players at the elite level is exactly what The Shield is built around.

Annika has been on the ice since she was four years old and has built her game the right way, stepping up from AFHL U13AA to the FSL and now competing in the 14U AAA division with the Jr. Ooks. In the spring, she suited up with the Alberta Warriors 2013 in the Rose Series. A smart, two-way center with a strong hockey IQ and a nose for the net.

Her cousin? Jared Spurgeon of the Minnesota Wild.

Advice from Josh Elliott, Coach at Ontario Hockey Academy.

When you are going through a tough stretch, stop looking at the mountain. Find something you are good at, focus on that, and take it one step at a time. Small progress is still progress, and that is how you get through it.

The athletes who come out the other side are the ones who stay the course.
