Sometimes the simplest experiences create the biggest learning opportunities! 💦🖌️

This week, Educator Kelsey transformed our Toddler 2 outdoor space with paint brushes and water. With no paint required, the children eagerly explored painting the fences, tables, toys, the ground, and even themselves!

This open-ended experience encouraged creativity, imagination, and sensory exploration while strengthening fine motor skills as little hands grasped, dipped, brushed, and painted. The children were fascinated by watching their water “paint” appear and disappear as surfaces dried, sparking curiosity and conversations about cause and effect.

Simple materials, endless possibilities, and lots of smiles made for a wonderful day of outdoor learning and discovery! ☀️

✨ Bringing Our Classroom to Life Through Small World Play! ✨

Last week, educator Emma in our Pre-3 Belleville classroom thoughtfully created a small world representation of a play space. Complete with familiar classroom materials, loose parts, and miniature versions of activities the children engage with each day, this invitation encouraged children to revisit and explore their everyday experiences through play.

Small world play allows children to make sense of the world around them by recreating familiar routines, experiences, and relationships. As children engage with the miniature classroom, they develop language and literacy skills through storytelling, conversation, and sharing ideas with peers. They also strengthen their memory and comprehension as they recall classroom experiences and represent them through play.

This type of play supports cognitive development as children sort, organize, problem-solve, and explore mathematical concepts such as counting, matching, and spatial awareness. It also fosters social-emotional learning by giving children opportunities to express their feelings, practice perspective-taking, and build connections between their real-life experiences and imaginative play.

We love seeing how children use play to reflect on their daily experiences, deepen their understanding of the world around them, and celebrate the learning that happens in our classroom every day! 💕✨

Today we are wishing the very best to Haylee as she approaches her maternity leave journey❤️

Haylee has been such a kind, soft, and steady soul within our Pre-2 classroom. The calm, nurturing care she brings each day has made such a meaningful impact on our children, families, and team. Her warmth, patience, and gentle nature shine through in everything she does.

While we will miss her dearly, we are so excited for this next chapter in her life and know she is going to be an absolutely amazing mother. Wishing Haylee a healthy, joyful maternity leave filled with so much love and special moments with her growing family💙🫶🏻🔅🍼

Sunshine, fresh air, and plenty of opportunities to explore! ☀️🌿💦

Our infants and toddlers have been making the most of the beautiful weather with outdoor play, sensory experiences, water exploration, and hands-on messy fun. These experiences support curiosity, creativity, gross motor development, and a love for learning through play.

As we spend more time outdoors, please remember to send:
🧢 A sun hat
🧴 Sunscreen (clearly labelled)
👕 Plenty of extra clothing, including socks
💧 Weather-appropriate outdoor gear

With all the water, mud, paint, and sensory exploration that comes with summer fun, children often need more than one change of clothes throughout the day!

Math, Measurement & Meaningful Conversations! 📏

Our Preschool friends were busy exploring a hands-on math and literacy invitation created by Educator Bowen (PRE 4)! Using syringes, measuring cylinders, coloured water, ice cubes, and trays, children experimented with transferring, measuring, mixing, and comparing different amounts of liquid.

As they filled containers and observed changes, children developed important early mathematical concepts such as counting, measurement, volume, estimation, comparison, and problem-solving. They explored questions like “Which tube holds more?”, “How many syringes will fill the tray?”, and “What happens when the ice melts?”

This experience also supported early literacy development through rich conversations, descriptive language, and new vocabulary. Children practiced using words such as full, empty, more, less, measure, blue, red, cold, and melt while sharing observations and ideas with their peers.

Through play-based learning, children are building foundational skills in mathematics, science, communication, and critical thinking—all while having fun exploring and discovering together!
