For my birthday, I treated myself to something that pushed me outside my comfort zone: a semi-private reformer Pilates class.

I've taught Pilates. I've practiced Pilates. I walked in thinking, "I've got this."

Five minutes later: "Nope. Definitely don't got this."

A few minutes after that: "Okay... maybe I've got this again."

The teacher was fantastic, the class was fun, and you know what I realized? Nobody cared that I was figuring it out. Nobody was judging. Nobody was keeping score.

Sometimes, we're our own biggest barrier.

Stepping outside your comfort zone is scary. But staying inside it can be even scarier.

This week, I challenge you to move a little differently. Try something new. Be a beginner. Wobble. Laugh. Figure it out as you go.

Today, I squatted, benched, barbell rowed, hammered out some curls, and finished with a 2 minute 20-second plank.

Why?

Because after 30, our bodies start quietly stealing muscle from us like a raccoon in the night.

Ladies, lifting weights isn't about getting bulky. It's about being able to put your own carry-on in the overhead bin, move your own furniture, and maintain the ability to open a pickle jar without filing a formal request for assistance.

The secret is lifting smart. Learn good form. Hire a trainer. Ask questions. Start lighter than your ego wants and heavier than your excuses want.

Now let's give some love to the people teaching us how not to accidentally throw our backs out picking up a laundry basket.

I love the kind of workout that leaves you sweaty, energized, and thinking, "Yep. That got me."

That's where 45 Club came from. Every Thursday in June at 6:30am, we're setting aside 45 minutes to move with purpose. 

We'll work through controlled intervals: 45 seconds of effort, 15 seconds to reset. Not frantic. Not chaotic. Just focused work.

Each class is built around three blocks:

Mobility.
Strength.
Core.

Five exercises. Three rounds. Enough repetition to build confidence. Enough intensity to leave feeling strong.

This isn't a traditional Pilates class.

We'll still move well.
We'll still focus on form.
But we'll sweat.

It's only $10 to drop in, and free for Union Members.

It's go time.

Vacation mode is officially over, and I'm coming back energized, inspired, and ready to move with you.

This week I spent time learning from other teachers, taking classes, observing different styles of movement, and soaking up lessons both inside the studio and out on the trails. Between the mountains, the ocean, and a whole lot of listening to my body, I've come home with a fresh perspective and plenty of ideas to bring into our classes.

We're starting fresh this week. Every class is an opportunity to learn, build strength, and create consistency. We'll be laying foundations, refining technique, and then building on that work week after week.

So book those classes. Get those movements in. Your future self will thank you.

Current trip status:

✔️ Taken half a dozen movement classes - everything from sweaty hot yoga to the most authentic 1:1 pilates class that reminded me why I love movement so much!

✔️ Climbed the Sea to Summit trail… which turned out to be WAY more mental than physical. 7km, 3.5 hours of straight incline, and approximately 400 moments of “whose idea was this?”

✔️ Consumed my body weight in seafood
✔️ Slept 8+ hours every single night
✔️ Slowly remembering what it feels like to actually rest, move, breathe, and exist without rushing

Better believe, I'm coming home inspired AF, slightly sore, deeply happy, and probably still smelling faintly like ocean air and tiger balm.
