A couple of weeks ago, we welcomed a group of adults from to Waves for a Pilates Mat class with our Pilates instructor Janne.

Janne is also a physiotherapist and PMT with a specialisation in integrating movement with mental health care, and has experience working with people with ASD and ADHD. You may have seen her already giving some group Pilates sessions at Waves, but since September she’s also been working as as a PMT on Mondays.

It was great to have the group join us for a session of movement and Pilates. Thanks for coming, Het Zavelhuis!

Thank you Marie 💙

As some of you may know, Marie also started this school year as a high school teacher for natural sciences, and has loved it. With her natural school teacher talent she has been offered some extra hours in her school, and so will be stopping at Waves at the end of October. A pity for all of us, but a huge win for the school system and the lucky students in her classes.

From all of us at Waves we want to thank Marie for the energy and dedication that she has brought to her sessions, but also behind the scenes as Sarahs right hand person the last year or so. We are excited to see her flourish in her new role and we look forward to still seeing her around Waves for some classes as a client 😀

Thank you Marie for everything, for your warm energy and for being the truly kind person that you are!

Meet our team, part 6! 🌊 THE FULL WAVES TEAM 🌊

And here we are: the FULL Waves team! 🔥

From physiotherapy, osteopathy and psychology to Pilates, the Clinical Gym and everything in between, we have one shared goal: to improve quality of life and well-being for all.

We believe health is about more than treating a symptom or fixing an injury. It’s about understanding the whole person, working together across disciplines, and empowering you to be an active participant in your own health journey. We want to give you the knowledge, tools and support to build a healthier, more sustainable life, while of course keeping movement fun along the way :)

At the heart of everything we do is a client-centred approach, with a strong focus on empowerment, open communication, diversity and innovation. All of this with a touch of hygge — creating a warm, welcoming environment where you can feel at home.

Today is European Day on Pain Awareness ❤️‍🩹

This topic is something we care deeply about because pain, especially chronic pain, is still one of the most under-recognised health problems:

- Chronic pain is extremely common. Around 1 in 5 adults in Europe lives with chronic pain (pain lasting longer than 3 months). For many, it affects work, sleep, mental well-being, relationships, and overall quality of life
- Pain is often misunderstood. Pain is a complex experience influenced by the nervous system, emotions, stress, sleep, and previous experiences. Understanding this can reduce fear and help with recovery
- People are often under-treated or treated too late. Many wait months or years before receiving appropriate assessment or multidisciplinary care. Raising awareness encourages earlier intervention and better outcomes
- Pain management is about more than medication. Research shows that the most effective pain management combines education, exercise, physiotherapy, lifestyle changes, and psychological support where appropriate

The goal isn't always to eliminate pain immediately, but to help you understand your pain, reduce its impact, and improve your quality of life.

Want to understand chronic pain better? Our colleague Sarah wrote a blog exploring what chronic pain is, why it can persist, and how a multidisciplinary approach can help. Read the full article via our website > blog

Meet our team, part 5! 🔥 THE LEADERSHIP TEAM 🔥

Meet Bavo, Katina, Edith, Lotte, Lien, Sarah & Siobhan 💙

At Waves, we spend a lot of time thinking about how we can best support our clients. We recognise that a supportive client journey starts with a team that feels supported internally too.

This is why we have a leadership team: they’re involved in the bigger picture — looking at where Waves is going, developing our strategy and thinking about what we want the company to look like in the future.

But a big part of their role is also much more day-to-day: being available when someone needs support, helping with things like scheduling and work-life balance, and taking the time to understand our colleagues as people. What matters to them? What motivates them? What do they enjoy about their work, and where do they want to go next?

For us, this is a very important part of building a workplace where people can do good and feel supported along the way.

Meet our team, part 4! 📚THE ADMIN TEAM 📚

Meet Katina, Iebe, Sofie, Lotte, Femke and not in the picture we also have Siobhan, Amélie, Zoë & Lena 💙

We’re the ones making sure everything behind the scenes runs as smoothly as possible. From finance and HR to marketing and customer care, people are at the heart of everything we do — supporting our team internally while helping create the best possible experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

🙋🏽 Come say hi to Sofie, Iebe & Amélie at the front desk!

👩🏼‍💻 You may run into Femke on one of her floor & admin support rounds around Waves

🥂 Maybe you’ve spotted our marketing manager Siobhan running around during one of our shoots with a boa scarf and a bottle of cava — don’t ask us why 😅

👩🏼‍💻 And meet Lotte, one of our physios who’s also our current admin team manager

While we may spend a lot of time behind our computers, we all LOVE TO MOVE! From hiking and weight lifting to dancing and Pilates, we can only sit still for so long before the urge to get moving kicks in again.

Behind the scenes, but playing a part in every corner of Waves 🌊

Meet our team, part 3! 🤸🏾 THE PILATES TEAM 🤸🏾

Meet our fully comprehensively trained Pilates team! From left to right we have Carlotta, Maria, Bavo, Naomi, Valerie, Nelle, Katina, Aish, Flore, Joanna and Edith and not in the picture we also have Olga, Lauren, Anne, Ginie, Brooklyn, Wanda, Lien, Femke and Sarah ✨

Pilates is a whole body and mind concept developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It has since developed from its early conception to have both incredible fitness and clinical properties, which is why here at Waves we are so passionate about it as a mind-body health platform. We offer group classes as well as private, duo and semi-private sessions.

Every Pilates instructor at Waves is comprehensively trained, meaning they have completed a full, in-depth Pilates training covering the full repertoire of exercises and equipment, as well as the principles behind them. This allows our team to adapt Pilates to different bodies, goals, abilities and health conditions.

Fun fact: a surprising number of our Pilates instructors have a background in dance! From ballet to salsa to contemporary dance, movement has been a big part of many of their lives long before they joined the Waves team.

New to Pilates at Waves, or not quite sure which class to book? We have made a straightforward guide to how our Pilates classes are structured, what each level means, who each class is for, and how to pick the right one for you. Go to our website > Start here to find out more

Today is World Mental Health Day, and this year’s theme is ‘lived experience’.

Lived experience is what someone has experienced themselves, and the knowledge and understanding that can come from living through something, rather than simply learning about it from the outside.

Too often, people with lived experience (PWLE) are asked to share their stories, but are not included in the decisions that affect them. Meaningful engagement goes beyond simply being heard. It means creating opportunities for people to help shape policies, services and support, challenge stigma, and influence decisions that affect their lives.

Lived experience is an important part of understanding and improving support for many different mental health challenges. Motherhood is just one area where there is still room to better recognise and respond to women’s lived experiences and mental health needs.

A while back, our dear colleague Lien wrote a blog about maternal mental health, ‘Hold the Mother, not the Baby’ — a personal reflection on the huge physical, emotional and psychological transformations that can come with becoming a mother.

Sometimes, the person living through an experience understands aspects of it that a textbook, statistic or clinical definition cannot fully capture. That’s why we think sharing stories like Lien’s matters. Personal experiences can help us better understand complex topics, challenge assumptions and, hopefully, contribute to a society that is more informed, understanding and supportive of mothers and their mental health.

Meet our team, part 2! 🏋🏾 THE GYM TEAM 🏋🏾

Wow it’s a challenge to get them to stand still even for a photo 😅 But here they are: our amazing clinical gym team! Meet Charles, Bavo, Justine, Nelle, Katina and Femke 💪🏾

Our highly qualified and passionate gym team focuses on exercise interventions for ALL, including support for people with acute and chronic health conditions and disabilities. Our goal is to provide an empowering and inclusive environment to attain your health and well-being goals – and most importantly keep things fun and enjoyable along the way. Be the participant in your journey – not the patient.

One thing that really comes through across the team is that they’re all genuinely passionate about movement. Our gym team doesn’t just talk about movement, they LOVE it and can’t sit still for too long — which is one reason why our team meetings don’t always happen around a table 😅 From running and strength training to Pilates, sports and all kinds of outdoor adventures, they each have their own way of staying active and having fun 🤸🏾
