Founded in 1975, the Yamba Buccaneers Rugby Union Club play in the Far North Coast Rugby Union competition in NSW, fielding both Senior and Junior teams. Senior Premierships - 4 (1982, 2004, 2010, 2018)
Senior Grand Finalists - 9 (1982, 1984, 1985, 2010, 2011, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023)
Senior Minor Premiers - 5 (2010, 2011, 2018, 2019, 2023)

Celebrating the Classics

Kane Patrick Douglas #863

A mobile and powerful lock Kane Douglas was a product of Maclean on the New South Wales north coast.

Douglas began his rugby career at age 15 when he joined the Yamba Buccaneers. He did not represent at schools level but was selected in the Australian U20s squad for 2009 IRB Junior World Championship tournament in Japan.

A year later Douglas made his Super Rugby debut for the Waratahs and in 2012 played his maiden Test for the Wallabies against Argentina. In 2013 he partnered with then-captain James Horwill in the second row for all three Tests against the touring British & Irish Lions.

The following year Douglas played a pivotal role in the Waratahs’ first Super Rugby title but then surprised with the announcement that he had signed with Irish club Leinster. While he learnt much about forward play from his northern hemisphere stint Douglas was just one year into a three-year deal before he was released.

Douglas then returned to Australia after he signed a three-year deal with the Queensland Reds. He was soon back in Wallaby colours before he won a place in the 2015 Rugby World Cup squad. Douglas’ tournament was brought to a premature close when he sustained a ruptured ACL just 14 minutes into the final against New Zealand.

🏉 Exciting News for Junior Rugby in the Clarence Valley! 🏉
Yamba Buccaneers Rugby Club is proud to announce that, thanks to the NSW Government, we’ve received $15,000 in funding to deliver the Clarence Valley Rugby 7s Schools’ Competition for school students in Years 3-6!

This fantastic initiative is focused on growing the game at the grassroots level, with a strong emphasis on:

✅ Encouraging girls’ participation
✅ Welcoming first-time rugby players
✅ Building confidence and skills in a fun, inclusive environment

The program will kick off with pre-competition coaching clinics, followed by a four-week after-school Rugby 7s competition.

🌟 Outcomes we’re aiming for:
- Increased junior and female participation
- Improved rugby skills and game understanding
- Stronger pathways into local community rugby

As a club, we’re passionate about strengthening grassroots sport and supporting the future of rugby across our region.
