Permanent Part-Time Position – Visitor Services, and Administration (various locations around Walhalla)

Walhalla Heritage (Inc.) is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and community-minded person to join our team in the beautiful historic gold-mining town of Walhalla.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, sharing local history and helping preserve and promote the unique heritage of one of Victoria’s most fascinating historic towns.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This varied and rewarding permanent part-time position will involve working across numerous of Walhalla’s much-loved heritage attractions:

1/ Corner Store & Museum – welcoming visitors, providing information about Walhalla’s rich history, assisting with museum operations and helping create a memorable visitor experience.

2/ Long Tunnel Extended Tourist Mine – welcoming and assisting visitors to this remarkable historic mining attraction and helping ensure visitors enjoy their experience.

3/ Walhalla Alive (Virtual Reality experience) and Walhalla Ghost Tours

4/ Administration & General Support – undertaking a range of administrative duties to support the ongoing operations of Walhalla Heritage.

No two days will necessarily be the same, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety, interacting with people and being part of a small, dedicated team.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who:

- Has excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Has retail and administration experience.
- Enjoys meeting people and sharing knowledge about local history and heritage.
- Is organised, reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a small team.
- Has sound computer skills and is comfortable undertaking general administrative tasks.
- Is flexible, adaptable and willing to assist wherever needed.
- Takes pride in representing Walhalla and supporting its tourism and heritage attractions.
(Experience in tourism, retail, museums, customer service or administration would be an advantage. A genuine interest in Walhalla’s history and a willingness to learn are just as important.)

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A TREASURER!
The Walhalla Heritage and Development League (WHDL) is looking for a suitably qualified accountant (or similarly qualified person) to join our volunteer executive team.
The WHDL, although fully managed by volunteers, is the largest employer in Walhalla with a staff of 10. It manages and operates....
• The Walhalla Museum.
• The Walhalla licensed post office agency
• The Walhalla gift shop
• The Long Tunnel Extended (Tourist) mine
• The Ghost tour business
• The Chinese Gardens Camping Ground.
• The historic Walhalla Post and Telegraph Office and museum
• The Walhalla Primary School Precinct.
• Creek and School Cottages. (Short stay accommodation)
• The Walhalla Mechanics Institute.
• The Walhalla - Erica Railway reserve.
• "Walhalla Alive" (Virtual Reality experience)
• and a few others!
This position would suit a retired accountant (or similar) that has an interest in history. They will be part of a dedicated group of volunteers that manage the town. This position involves assisting the WHDLs professional (paid) accounting firm and monitoring day to day finances. Typical responsibilities will be budgets, expenses, confirming wages, approving accounts, working with assets managers on financial matters etc.
This role can be conducted remotely from the town. Executive meetings are conducted online. Occasional Walhalla accommodation can be provided.
This role is crucial with Walhalla playing an important role in the UNESCO world heritage listing of the Victorian Goldfields pending. It's a great opportunity to make a real difference.

Prior to the Christmas period we are looking at filling numerous paid (part time) and volunteer positions across numerous assets. We are looking for mine / ghost tour guides, archivists, retail assistants, maintenance people etc.

Paid positions will be at award rates.

All volunteers will be reimbursed for travel costs.

"WALHALLA ALIVE" - OPERATIONAL OVER EASTER!!

As per a previous post our exciting new attraction, WALHALLA ALIVE is almost complete and quickly approaching the official launch.

Last Friday (27th March) we hosted about 15 Walhalla locals at a "Sneak Peek" at the newly refurbished shop. Finger food was served and everyone had a chance to experience what all the fuss (and lots of volunteer labour) has been about.

Everyone was suitably impressed.

This was also our first opportunity to trial the experience on the public and a few very minor problems were identified. These were quickly fixed.

Over the last two days we have been conducting a few other trials on willing participants, in groups of 4. We need to know things like effective operating times between all participants, cleaning times for the masks, operational difficulties between generations etc.

We are excited to now offer Easter visitors the chance to experience WALHALLA ALIVE on a limited operating schedule. This will be a further opportunity to make sure that everything is working and also be a chance to get all of our guides proficient in running the experience, in readiness for the official launch.

So if you are interested we will be operating WALHALLA ALIVE from (this) Friday to Easter Monday. There will be 4 time slots on each day, 10.30am, 11.15am, 2.00pm and 2.45pm. We have the ability to host a maximum of 6 guests in each time slot.

Pricing is $20 per adult and $15 per child (12YO and above).

Our electronic booking facility is not currently operational so please book directly at the Walhalla Museum which is open 10.00am - 4.00pm (7 Days). You can also book over the phone by ringing 5165-6250

All profits from WALHALLA ALIVE will be used in further Walhalla restoration, preservation and promotional projects.
