I’ve witnessed this one self-sabotaging truth thousands of times with my beautiful clients. It’s so common that I wrote a book about it as it causes conflict, hurt and misunderstanding in relationships. It’s making inaccurate assumptions.

We create stories, fill in the blanks, and react as though our assumptions are facts.

However, a simple question can often prevent unnecessary pain.

If you don't know, ask.

Imagine carrying a heavy emotional backpack every day for 25 years. You become so used to the weight that you forget what it feels like to be free.

Yesterday, during an Inner Child Rescue session, a client released decades of grief, anger, sadness, disappointment and resentment that had been living beneath the surface since a painful experience many years ago.

Later, she sent me this message:
“Thank you, Jane, I feel happy for the first time in a long time. A weight has been lifted ♥️”

Moments like this remind me that healing isn’t about changing the past. It’s about freeing ourselves from the pain we’ve been carrying from it.

Twenty-five years of emotional weight released that no longer needed to be carried. It’s a beautiful reminder that it is never too late to heal. Never underestimate what can happen when we stop coping with our pain and start healing it 🙌❤️

It’s Friday so date night for many. First date nerves can be self sabotaging. Remind yourself of your worth and while you’re at it, remind yourself, ‘it’s just a date’. Many people say no to opportunities to get to know someone a bit better because of the fear of ‘leading someone on’. A date isn’t a commitment to anything more than, ‘I’m curious and would like to get to know you a bit more’. Go have fun being curious and playful and excited at the potential to connect with another. And ... if you don’t connect, you’ve had a new experience and valuable opportunity to practice dating and kicking those first date nerves to the curb.

Every ‘no’ in dating is not a verdict on your worth. It’s information.

It simply means: not aligned, not the right timing, not the right fit etc. However, if you make it something about you, you start to lower your self-worth and slowly close the door that needs to be open. ❤️

You can’t heal while your nervous system still believes you’re unsafe.

So many people try to “fix” themselves while living in survival mode, constantly anxious, overwhelmed, hyper-vigilant, people pleasing, shutting down, or emotionally exhausted.

But healing doesn’t begin with pressure.

Rejection in dating is rarely what we think it is. Most people are not rejecting your worth, they are responding to compatibility, timing, preferences, personal history, making inaccurate assumptions, their past experiences, or their own internal filters.

The problem starts when we make someone else’s “no” mean, “I’m not good enough.” And then allowing that story to dictate every future interaction or connection.
