Cairns week is here! Before you head to the start line, run through this quick swim checklist to make sure race morning goes as smoothly as possible.
1. Make sure you’re comfortable zipping and unzipping quickly, and removing your suit efficiently.
2. Even a well-fitted wetsuit can cause chafing, particularly around the neck. We recommend using non-petroleum-based lubricants to protect sensitive skin and the wetsuit’s neoprene.
3. Make sure your race goggles are comfortable, clear, and have been tested in open water before race day. Always carry a spare pair!
4. There’s nothing worse than looking back on your strava to see you swam in zigs zags the whole time. Make sure you check the start, buoys locations and exit. Bonus points if you go to the swim course the day before and note any sighting landmarks.
5. Raise your heart rate up, loosen the shoulders, and shake out those nerves. Get a feel for the water and be ready to swim smooth.
To everyone racing this weekend: enjoy the experience, trust your preparation, and have a great race. Good luck from the Great Ocean Team!
