ππ₯ SMTBC XC MTB Race Report β Round 2, 2026 π₯π
π Pioneer MTB Park | Sunday 17 May 2026
Round 2 of the 2026 SMTBC Cross Country season delivered another strong day of racing at Pioneer MTB Park, with riders tackling a timed duration format across all grades in cool autumn conditions ππ΅ββοΈ The course rewarded consistency and smart pacing, with several categories featuring tight battles, changing race momentum, and close finishes right to the line.
π A Grade
In A Grade, Chris Soanes claimed the win, gradually building his advantage through consistent laps. Rodney Rae rode strongly for second place β incredibly, he was able to recover from a mechanical failure by replacing every single component on his bike, even the stickers! π
Lincoln Johns showed impressive pace early before fading slightly in the closing laps.
A Grade Male podium - 1st β Chris Soanes, 2nd β Rodney Rae, 3rd β Lincoln Johns.
April Foster was the sole female competitor in A Grade and completed four solid laps to take the womenβs honours.

π₯ B Grade
B Grade saw one of the most competitive races of the morning, with David Tattis, Nathan Ruks and Anthony Daniels all running similar lap times from the opening lap. Tattis held the lead through consistent riding, but the battle for second came down to mere fractions, with Nathan Ruks narrowly edging Anthony Daniels after five laps of racing. Adam Pieper remained in contention for much of the race before slipping slightly in the closing stages.
B Grade Male podium - 1st β David Tattis, 2nd β Nathan Ruks, 3rd β Anthony Daniels.
Melissa Tiplady continued her strong season form to take the B Grade female win, while Richella King rode consistently to secure second place.

π₯ C Grade
C Grade attracted the largest field of the day with 17 riders lining up, and the racing didnβt disappoint. Blake Duff worked his way into the lead after the opening lap and maintained strong pace to take the win. Brad Binskin and Jordan Trevor battled closely throughout the four-lap race, with only seconds separating them at various points before Binskin secured second place. Jeremy Young and Nick Brackley were also in the mix early, highlighting the depth of competition in the category.
C Grade Male podium - 1st β Blake Duff, 2nd β Brad Binskin, 3rd β Jordan Trevor.
Kristen Theile completed three steady laps to claim the C Grade female victory.

πͺ D Grade
Brad Sommerville rode consistently to take the win ahead of Dylan Loken and Steve Williams.
D Grade Male podium - 1st β Brad Sommerville, 2nd β Dylan Loken, 3rd β Steve Williams.
Evie Johns claimed first place in the D Grade female category after a composed ride across two laps.

π΅ββοΈ E Grade
E Grade produced a strong ride from Harvey Egas, whose dominant performance secured victory. Oakley Tongue made a critical tactical move by heading out for a second lap, securing second place, while Quinn Taylor completed the podium.
E Grade Male podium - 1st β Harvey Egas, 2nd β Oakley Tongue, 3rd β Quinn Taylor.
Chrystie Morgan claimed the female E Grade honours.

β‘ E-Bike Category
The E-Bike category produced one of the closest contests of the day, with Paul Caslick and Archie Ruks trading fast laps throughout the five-lap race. Caslick eventually edged ahead with the quickest final lap of the category to secure victory by just seconds after more than 75 minutes of racing. Liam Wild completed the podium after maintaining steady lap times throughout the event.
E-Bike Male podium - 1st β Paul Caslick, 2nd β Archie Ruks, 3rd β Liam Wild.
πΆ Kids Race
The Kids Race once again brought plenty of energy to the event, with Flynn Morgan completing six laps to take the boysβ win after showing impressive pace across the shorter course.

Maisie Harper rode strongly across five laps to take the girlsβ victory.
