At 41, Geena Davis picked up a bow and arrow for the first time, and started practicing archery. By 43, she was competing for a chance to represent Team USA at the 2000 Olympics.

Yes, *that* Geena Davis. The actor from "A League of Their Own" and "Thelma & Louise." In just two years, she made it all the way to the U.S. Olympic archery trials, finishing 24th out of 300 women vying for a spot.

Ultimately, getting a place on the Olympic team didn’t pan out, but going from complete beginner to one of the country’s top competitors in two years? An impressive feat! It’s never too late to try something brand new.

❤️🏹 A HUGE THANK YOU TO IRON GATE KNIVES! 🏹❤️

What an absolute pleasure it was for Port Stephens Archers to be invited to be part of the Iron Gate Knives Big Open Day today!

A massive thank you to Iron Gate Knives and Isaac for welcoming us along and making us feel so included. 🙌

Irongate very generously donated a gorgeous custom-made knife for us to raffle off, and we were blown away by the response! The raffle was a huge success and we’re incredibly grateful for the support. ❤️ And a bonus! The knife was won by Kate from Hunter Valley Traditional Archers!!

And of course… that free brisket lunch was absolutely delicious! 🤤🔥 Thank you — you certainly know how to look after everyone!

There was a huge crowd throughout the day, and we had loads of interest in Port Stephens Archers, especially from some fellow archers who stopped by for a chat. 🏹 We’re keeping our fingers crossed that we might see a few new faces at the club soon!

A big thank you also goes to our PSA members who came along and helped man the booth. We really appreciate you giving up your time and helping represent our club. ❤️

The day was packed with awesome raffles, giveaways, great people and plenty happening, and it was fantastic to be part of it.

Thank you again, Irongate Knives and Isaac, for having us! We had a fantastic day and would absolutely love to be included again next year.

Until then… keep making those awesome knives! 🔪🔥

🔪 IRON GATE KNIVES FESTIVAL – HELPERS NEEDED! 🔪

We’re excited to be attending the Iron Gate Knives Festival this weekend! 🎉
10 - 2pm

Port Stephens Archers will have a booth at the festival, and we’ll be running a raffle for an amazing custom-made knife! 🔥

To make the weekend run smoothly, we’re looking for some friendly volunteers to help man the booth throughout the event.

If you can spare a few hours, we’d really appreciate your help! 🙌 You’ll get to chat with people about PSA, promote our club and archery, and of course help sell those all-important raffle tickets! 🎟️

With Dubbo cancelled, come and get your archery fix with us on Sunday!

With Dubbo having to cancel their shoot because of rain, Port Stephens has taken the opportunity to provide a shoot for anyone ready to have a go. Sign on by 9 Sunday, shoot at 9.30. 15 targets x 2, BBQ lunch in between. Helpers needed to set out from 7.30 and bring in afterwards
