AGM CANCELLED DUE TO NO QUORUM
Tuesday night we hosted an AGM for an Association of 265 playing members. Less than 6% of our members attended. We are beyond disappointed.
69 senior members – 5 players represented
196 junior members – 10 families represented
265 members, 197 families and 29 teams
15 people in attendance and only 6 who don’t currently sit on the committee.
It is honestly gut wrenching to put so much effort into making a season happen, to then have so few people value that effort.
When you don’t turn up and you don’t even bother to send your apologies, you send a very clear message that you don’t value us. You don’t value our time; you don’t value our skills, you don’t value our experience, and you don’t value our efforts. It’s a massive show of disrespect.
A committee of just 12 people has made basketball happen for 265 people this season. Hours of volunteer time and effort have gone towards making that happen. We’re the first people there every week and the last to leave, we’re the ones tallying votes, chasing umpires, ticking off the paperwork, getting teams to country week and state champs, fundraising, fixturing, building teams and fielding questions. We asked you for ONE HOUR.
We understand that many of you will have very genuine excuses for not attending. We all have excuses, we all work, we all have families, we all have other commitments. But we made the time because an AGM is a crucial component in providing basketball for our kids and for us.
An AGM is a legal requirement of running an Association. It’s also a chance to reflect on a season just gone and a chance to plan new ideas for the season coming forward. It’s for fresh ideas and fresh faces. It’s not for just 6 people.
We have scheduled a new date for a second chance to have our AGM. There will be no third date. Our time is worth more than that.
We don’t just need bums on seats, we need people willing to contribute, willing to put their hands up and willing to do their part to give you and your children the opportunity to play basketball in Merredin. Just one representative from each team would give us a quorum, two from each team would give us fantastic meeting with lots of valuable input, more would be even better.

No quorum = no 26/27 season
No committee = no 26/27 season
No quorum or no committee = no 3rd chances
The future of Merredin Basketball is at risk. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD AGM. Please think seriously about whether you would like to see basketball in Merredin continue.
