This Sunday, I'm offering something a little different at Metta Wellness Space in Eltham — a Sunday Swap Tea Ceremony.

Instead of monetary payment, guests are invited to bring something meaningful to exchange. Perhaps it's herbs or flowers from your garden, homemade preserves, eggs from your chickens, something you've crafted, a skill you offer, or simply an abundant gift from the heart.

The idea is simple: to bring community together through sharing our gifts and remembering that we all have something valuable to offer.

We'll gather for a meditative Tea Ceremony, slow down together, connect, and experience a different way of exchanging value—one based on generosity, reciprocity, and trust.

In a world becoming increasingly digital, this feels like a beautiful opportunity to return to something more human.

I’ve found myself in so many conversations with women lately around stress, burnout, exhaustion, and overwhelm. So many admitting they don’t know how to slow down. That sitting for a Tea Ceremony, meditation, gentle Yoga, or anything still and quiet feels almost impossible… because their body, mind, and nervous system simply won’t let them.
And I get it. Women are carrying so much… Motherhood, taxi driver, work, the mental and emotional load of the family, relationships — partners, marriages, friendships, family dynamics. Caring for ageing parents while still raising young children, running on broken sleep, their own shifts in hormones and cycles as they age, trying to exercise, eat well, show up for everyone, and somehow squeeze “self-care” into the cracks of an already overflowing life.
We are often praised for how much we can hold… but rarely taught how to rest. As someone who experienced adrenal fatigue for over 10 years, I learnt the hard way that constantly pushing comes at a cost. One of the greatest lessons I learnt was to keep reserves in my tank.
If you’re feeling amazing, still keep 20% for yourself.
If you’re already stressed, depleted, or overwhelmed, maybe only work at 40% maximum of your usual capacity where possible.
Not every season is meant for pushing. We live in a culture that glorifies hustle, striving, overdoing, and constantly achieving more. But sometimes what we truly need isn’t to do more…
It’s stillness. Rest. Nourishment. Space. Replenishment.
You do not need to burn through every drop of yourself to be worthy. What if saving those drops… preserving that energy… is actually what allows you to become the healthiest, strongest, most present version of yourself.

Our first ever Sunday Swap offering is in June, see below…

Sunday Swap is a new monthly offering here at Metta Wellness Space. It’s a beautiful way of accessing healing and wellness experiences through exchange rather than money.

Instead of paying cash for your once a month Metta Wellness Space Offering (i.e. Tea Ceremony, Yoga Class) you simply bring something meaningful as payment:

From your garden: Fresh herbs, flowers, seasonal produce
From your kitchen: Homemade treats, preserves, sourdough starter
From your hands: Something you’ve crafted or created
From your gifts: A service you offer (massage, reading, skill-share)
From your heart: Whatever feels abundant and joyful to give

The Philosophy:
Sunday Swaps honour the truth that we all have valuable gifts to offer, and that meaningful exchange doesn’t always need to involve money. It’s about recognising that your homemade bread, garden harvest, or creative skills hold real value and can become your payment for wellness experiences.

One of the most common things I hear after Tea Ceremonies is…
“I didn’t realise how much I needed this.”
We’ve become so used to rushing. To filling every moment, every space, with constant stimulation, noise, scrolling, thinking, doing.
But when we finally sit down in this kind of space in silence, with tea, with nothing expected of us… something within us softens.
People often arrive unsure what to expect. Wondering if they’ll be able to sit still, be quiet, slow down. And then something shifts. As we sit bowl after bowl, the time, space & the medicine allows the nervous system to settle. The mind to quieten.
There’s no pressure to perform, share, or be anything other than you are. Whilst we sit in community there is no eye contact or speaking, there is simply space to be with yourself. With tea as your anchor, your guide. And with it you experience stillness, presence & space… something many of us are deeply craving, often without even realising it.
Tea Ceremonies are such a beautiful reminder that healing doesn’t always need to be loud or complicated. Sometimes it looks like sitting quietly with a warm bowl of tea in your hands, remembering what it feels like to simply be.
