Sarsfields Hurling Club WA, Maylands (2026)

As many of you will know, our teammate and friend Conor Quinn suffered a devastating knee injury during the WA Men’s Senior Hurling Semi-Final against St Gabriel’s this year.

Unfortunately, the injury was extremely serious, with Conor suffering a ruptured ACL, LCL and MCL, tears to both the medial & lateral meniscus, a torn patella & a fractured femur.

Conor is an electrician by trade, so being able to walk and move safely is essential for him to do his job. At the moment, he is on crutches and is unable to return to work until he has undergone surgery and is medically cleared to do so. This means he is currently facing a significant period without an income, while also dealing with considerable medical and living expenses.

Thankfully, following a medical appointment this week, he has been expedited for emergency surgery due to the severity of the injury. While this is fantastic news and will hopefully put him on the road to recovery, he now faces a lengthy period of rehabilitation and physiotherapy before he can return to work or sport.

As a GAA community, we want to come together and get behind Conor. Quinny is a hugely valued member of Sarsfields Hurling Club and is incredibly well respected throughout the WA GAA community. He has represented Western Australia at State level over the past two years, travelling to Melbourne and Brisbane, and was a successful member of the WA State team back in 2024.

He is not only an outstanding athlete, but an absolute gentleman off the field who gives a huge amount to the club and the wider GAA community.

We are asking everyone to please donate whatever you can to help Conor through this difficult period. Whether it’s a small or large donation, every contribution will help towards Conor’s medical costs, rehabilitation and day-to-day living expenses while he is unable to work.

Let’s get behind Conor, support one of our own and help get him back on his feet and back doing what he loves.

2026 WA Senior Hurler of the Year – Luke O’Brien

A huge congratulations to our own Luke O’Brien on being named the 2026 WA Senior Hurler of the Year.

In his first season wearing the blue and yellow, the Mt Sion man has made an incredible impact, settling into the Sarsfields squad seamlessly from the moment he arrived. His commanding performances at centre back throughout the league and championship saw him establish himself as one of the standout players in the competition.

Luke was instrumental in helping Sarsfields reclaim the WA Senior Hurling Championship, producing massive displays week after week. His leadership, composure, determination and consistency set the standard all season and made him a key figure in our success.

This award is thoroughly deserved and is fitting recognition for an exceptional debut season with the club. We’re delighted to have Luke representing Sarsfields and equally proud to see his achievements recognised. It’s also a fantastic honour for Luke’s home club, Mt Sion Co. Waterford, to see one of their own crowned the 2026 WA Senior Hurler of the Year.

A huge congratulations to the following Sarsfields players on being named on the 2026 WA Senior Hurling Team of the Year following their outstanding performances throughout this year’s league and championship. The awards were presented in the The Mighty Quinn Tavern by the WA Committee following Saturday’s final.

Their performances have been instrumental in our success throughout the season, and this recognition is thoroughly deserved. It’s a fantastic achievement not only for the lads themselves, but also for their families and the clubs back home who played such an important role in their hurling journeys.

WA Senior Hurling Championship Final

Sarsfields 2-25 (31)
Perth Shamrocks 2-22 (28)

We are delighted to be crowned 2026 WA Senior Hurling Champions following a hard fought 2-25 to 2-22 victory over perth shamrocks hurling club at RA Cook Reserve on Saturday.

As always, we knew we were in for a huge test against the reigning champions. Every meeting between the sides this year has been decided by the finest of margins and this final was no different. Credit must go to Shamrocks for another tremendous performance and we have no doubt they’ll be back challenging for silverware again next season.

From the throw-in, we laid the foundations for victory with a superb first half display, taking a commanding 0-16 to 0-07 lead into the break.

Shamrocks threw everything at us after the restart, but two crucial goals proved decisive. Adam Byrne got the first as he powered his way through for our first green flag after great work by Conor Butler to set up the goal before Jack Lyons dispatched a penalty to put daylight between the sides at a vital stage of the game.

There were outstanding performances right across the pitch with our half back line setting the tone. Jack Lyons was influential once again, while Shane Power, Aaron Brennan, Peter McCalin and Ronan Dunphy all delivered when it mattered most.

A special congratulations goes to Luke O’Brien, whose outstanding display earned him a thoroughly deserved MOTM award. The Waterford man was immense from start to finish, leading by example with another superb championship performance at centre back.

To everyone who came out to support us throughout the season and over the weekend, thank you. Your support never goes unnoticed and played a massive part in helping us get over the line.

As the celebrations begin to settle, we’re incredibly proud to finish the season as WA Champions. It’s been a year of hard work and commitment from everyone involved with the club. We’ll enjoy the celebrations over the coming weeks before turning our attention to next season. WA Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final

St. Gabriel’s 0-12

We booked our place in the WA Senior Hurling Championship Final with an impressive 3-32 to 0-12 victory over St. Gabriel’s at RA Cook Reserve yesterday.

While the scoreboard was convincing, it certainly doesn’t reflect the effort and progress St. Gabriel’s have shown throughout the season. They’ve made tremendous strides as a club this year, and we have no doubt they’ll return even stronger next season.

From our own perspective, this was one of our most complete performances of the season. We were sharp from the first ball, won the key battles all over the field, and our touch, movement and work rate were exactly where we know they can be.

The opening goal from Jack Lyons proved to be a huge moment in the game, giving us early momentum and setting the tone for the afternoon. There were standout performances right across the pitch, with Seamus Hayes and Peter McCalin outstanding in the backs, while Aaron Brennan, Ronan Dunphy and Shane Power once again produced excellent displays with their relentless work rate and commitment.

It was also fantastic to see both semi-finals streamed live on Clubber for the first time, giving family, friends and supporters from near and far the opportunity to watch hurling in Western Australia. Both the men’s and camogie finals will also be streamed live this weekend, so be sure to check out the link in Clubber bio for all the details.

Attention now turns to next week’s Championship Final against Perth Shamrocks. It’s a rivalry that has already produced two cracking encounters this season in the Perth 7s Final and the WA League Final, with Shamrocks narrowly edging both contests. We know another massive battle awaits, and we’ll be working hard this week to give ourselves the best possible chance of bringing the championship back to Sarsfields.

🏆 Championship Hurling is Back🏆

This Saturday, it’s all on the line as we take to RA Cook Reserve for a huge WA Championship Semi-Final against St Gabriels, with throw-in at 14:10.

If you’re around Perth this weekend, we’d love to see plenty of support on the sidelines again to get behind the lads as they battle for a place in the championship final.

If you can’t make it, for the first time Clubber has partnered with WA Hurling to stream both championship semi-finals live this weekend. The streaming link is attached in their bio, so whether you’re in Perth, Ireland, or anywhere else in the world, you can tune in to catch the action live.

WA Senior Hurling League Final

Sarsfields 3-22 (31)
Perth Shamrocks 3-26 (35) (AET)

Another cracking battle between ourselves and Perth Shamrocks took place on Saturday last with this one needing extra time before Shamrocks edged it 3-26 to 3-22. Congratulations to perth shamrocks hurling club on a deserved victory. They were the sharper team on the day and took their chances when it mattered most.

From our point of view, while the hurling wasn’t at the level we know we’re capable of, the work rate, hunger and determination of the team never wavered. That fight kept us in the contest right until the end of normal time, with Jack Lyons converting a last-minute free to send the game to extra time.

Standout performers for Sarsfields were Luke O’Brien, who was immense once again at full-back and Jack Lyons who kept us in the contest for long periods with some outstanding individual scores from play and free-taking under pressure. Peter McCalin also put in a huge shift at wing-back, while Jason Dunford made a brilliant impact off the bench, causing Shamrocks plenty of problems and giving us a real lift when he came on.

While the result wasn’t the one we wanted, there are plenty of lessons to take from it. Our focus now switches to the championship, where we face St Gabriel’s in the semi-final on July 25th.

🔵🟡 2026 Sarsfields Hurling Panel 🔵🟡

The 2026 hurling season has once again brought together a diverse group of players and management from across Ireland, representing eight different counties & 37 home clubs.

This post recognises the home clubs that have helped shape the players and mentors who make up our 2026 panel.

As we prepare for this Saturday’s League Final against Perth Shamrocks, this group has the opportunity to add another title to the club’s honours list and build momentum heading into the Championship Semi-Final against St Gabriel’s on Saturday, July 25th.

The club’s success today is built not only on the efforts of the current group, but also on the contributions of the many past players, mentors and volunteers who have been part of the Sarsfields journey over the years. Their dedication has helped shape the club into what it is today.

We wish the players and management the very best of luck this weekend as they look to get their hands on some silverware after a hard fought league campaign.
