George trains students and horses at his Mangrove Mountain Training Centre. He competes his own team of horses and has competed at World Cup Level

Christine Johnson is an experienced EA Level 2 Coach and Coach Educator and has competed and taught showjumping, eventing and dressage at all levels. Having taught Horse Management to Diploma level in the NSW TAFE system and for five years at Marcus Oldham College in Victoria, Christine has a sound background in Horse husbandry and Business Management to compliment her practical riding and coaching skills. Christine is a member of the NSW PCA’s paid instructors panel and is a member of the NSW NCAS Advisory panel. She offers training for groups and individuals preparing for their Coach assessments and to riders wanting to improve their personal skills. Does My Horse Need a Ration Balancer? 🤔

Horses who are fed a healthy and nutritionally balanced diet will generally present with better coat condition, hoof quality, top line and muscle development and will overall look and perform better.

There are many signs of nutrient deficiencies in horses and ponies, including:

- Poor coat condition
- Brittle or cracked hooves
- Lethargic or reluctant to work
- Limited ability to perform to their best
- Poor bowel movements including diarrhea
- Reduced immune function
- Changes in normal behaviour

Long term nutrient deficiencies can not only affect a horse’s external appearance and performance, but can result in more serious health conditions.

Factors that increase the risk of nutrient deficiency:
- Provided a diet of only grazing or hay
- Grazing on nutrient deficient soil
- Fed a 'complete' feed but not at the recommended rate
- Current diet is not balanced to provide essential vitamins and minerals
