Light River Rifle Club

Light River RC hosted the Rimfire Challenge on Sunday morning 7 June 2026. 12 competitors attended and a good time was had by all in fine conditions. We used the 100m mound in front of F block targets. Congratulations to Richard Braund for winning the "Standard" class and Drew from CTVRC for winning "Open" class. Many thanks to organiser Mick Punturiero and Range Officers Stuart Braund and Emma Clayton.

No club shooting last week due to rain on Friday, although it was maily dry on the Saturday, but wet underfoot. Refer below for the flyer for the LR Rimfire Challenge match.

There was quite a gap when the club did not shoot around Easter. The CTV Open Championship was held on 28 & 29 March, the range was closed over the Easter holiday and there was 900m on 11 April.

The last club competition was at 700m on ANZAC Day, with the results below.

The 400m range on 2 May was not contested due to rain, which started around 12:30pm, although the morning had been dry!

Thanks to Stuart Braund for repairs to the back door woodwork and Karen for painting of the front porch over Easter.

Stuart has also been looking at club jackets so they should be available soon.

A typical Lower Light range day with fishtailing winds from 12 o'clock at 8 to 10 mph. Well done Stuart Braund to handicap and off-rifle score.

Another tricky wind day (for some of us!). 8-10 mph fishtailing from the south (ahead). Mick P tried a sporting rifle for the first time with the club.

Another tricky day for some of us! Winds fishtailing from ahead and moving quickly at times - blink and you miss the wind change! Good shoot by Stuart.

Shooting has been a bit hit and miss for the past month, with hot weather reducing enthusiasm.

There was no shooting on Saturday 24th January as S.A.R.A. closed the range to all access. This as a day of 42 deg C forecast and a Catastrophic Fire Danger alert issued.

Results for Saturday 31st January 2026 shown below. Stuart B, Bryan G and Mick P all shot in the morning and the rest braved the afternoon winds. A good win for Bryan Galpin.

The weather was challenging with a slowly fishtailing wind from ahead at 10 to 16mph. Fortunately the breeze was coolish, making conditions reasonably comfortable for shooting.
