We simply couldn't lose, if we did we most likely finish bottom of the ladder, so much was at stake and our boys answered the call brilliantly.
Out of the blocks straight away we found ourselves 2-0 up after only 10 mins. The perfect start. Tom getting a header from an Eddie free kick and Gaz getting his first goal for the club with a desperate lunge at a ball in the 6 yard box that showed exactly the mindset we were in.
The pelicans got back into the game during the 2nd half and were rewarded with a dubious goal line call that the referee favored with the opposition much to our disagreement.
A slight reset at half time to remind each other what was at stake really helped as defensively in the 2nd half we were fantastic. we created a couple of chances but more importantly hung on to the lead, made it hard for them and finished the match with 3 points and jumping up 2 positions on the ladder.
A few boys played their best game for the year and everyone contributed to a great result in such an important match.
Our last match of the 2026 season is away to Bell Park, we still could fall down the ladder but we've put ourselves in a great position to stay out of the bottom 2. Time will tell if we can stay there but if we turn up Friday at Bell Park in the same mindset we'll go a good way to achieving that.

FCL WOMEN vs SURFCOAST
LOST 0-2
On Saturday FC Leopold Senior Womenโs team played against Surf Coast FC.
This weekโs game was included in the breast cancer awareness rounds played over the weekend, with Leopold playing in pink away kits and ribbons in support. The game itself was a competitive match with many great attempts for goals and saves from Leopold as well as Surf Coast.
Overall, Leopold did not manage to score any goals but had many great opportunities and attempts throughout the match, the end result being a 0 - 2 loss.
Despite the loss the match was a fun yet competitive game for both teams. Many supporters came down to support the team for the last home game this season, creating a very exciting match.

FCL RESERVES vs BELLARINE SHARKS
LOST 0-5
A couple of late withdrawals wasn't the best preparation for the reserve team against a strong Sharks team.
A goal conceded after 30 seconds wasn't either and it kickstarted a very bad 10 mins that had the game at 3-0 to the opposition.
The game finished 5-0, all goals coming in the second half. a positive being that we had opportunities to score a couple in the second half but it wasn't to be, time to move on and focus on finishing the season with a win against Armstrong Utd.
