🏆 MYRIDE LAUNCESTON SAWPIT HILL GRAVEL REPORT & RESULTS

We had a great mix of racing today with something for everyone accross all grades, from the winner in A grade crossing the line in 1:22:45, all the way through the field to the last rider finishing in just under 3 hours.

The gravel course was super smooth and running well after some overnight rain. The course was dry by 10am and the field rolled out for the mass start behind the lead car.

With 50km to go, racing got underway and the attacks started from kilometre zero with Caleb McKenzie leading a group of A and B grade riders away from the rest of the field.

By 42km to go, the front of the race had come back together but it wasn’t long before Tom Cheesman and Alex Lack attacked off the front and extended their lead up over the Bryant’s Lane climb and down the long descent into Deddington.

Through Deddington, McKenzie moved clear of the chase group to bridge across to the front two. After a solid effort on the smooth gravel sector between Deddington and Patterdale he made the junction with Cheesman and Lack at the Paterdale intersection.

With 29km to the finish, the gap to the chasing group of 12 riders was around 500 metres and continuing to grow. The decisive move though, came with 26km to go on the first significant climb of the day, when the pressure from Cheesman saw McKenzie go backwards, followed soon after by Lack.

By the top of the climb Cheeseman was on his own and looked to be building an unassailable lead as he turned onto Sawpit Hill Road with 20km to go. He continued to extend his lead down the high speed Sawpit descent and on the final stretch along Logan Road.

It was a solid ride by Cheesman at the front of the race, pushing all the way to the line for a deserved win, finishing 3:13 ahead of McKenzie in 2nd and Lack in 3rd on the same time.

There were some really standout performances today, from first time participants, mates who came to race together, and established racers.

The course check was completed this morning and the gravel is looking perfect - we'll share some notes on the course and other race info later today after the AusCycling AGM.

We can't use the Memoral Hall carpark for registrations as planned so we will use Buffalo Park (pictured) located directly behing the Clarendon Arms as our base for the day.

It's a sunny spot with picnic tables, connections through Pioneer Park to the amenities and plenty of parking nearby in Barklay Street and the surronding streets (please don't park in any bus stops). See the map below.

There is a bit of traffic on Sundays due to Evandale Market, so we will roll out from the park behind the lead car travelling north on Murray Street, left onto Barklay Street, left onto High and continuing straight onto Nile Road where the lead car will move off and the race will start.

28/05/2026

🔥 We have got at least 50 riders for Sundays race which is amazing.

🫶🏼 We have a load of regular riders sitting this one out so If you’re not racing on Sunday and you can let a hand with registrations or just by taking photos please let us know in the comments below of send us a DM via messenger.
