Not the best start to the 2023 season. Round one at Symonds Plains raceway produced solid results in the first 3 races and a new PB of 58.0. I over shot my braking point and crashed in the last race, throwing away a B grade Superbike win for the round, ultimately finishing second in B grade and 9th outright for the day. Minor damage to the bike and i managed to walk away with no injuries.
Round 2 at Baskerville Raceway was not any better. After entering Pre modern supersport as well as Tas Superbikes i pushed both bikes hard and managed to qualify 8th in the Superbikes and 4th in Pre modern Supersport.
Unfortunately i pushed old tyres past their limit and lowsided the bike on the last lap of qualifying for the Pre modern Supersport. A journey through the run off area and heavy impact into the tyre wall resulted in a punctured lung, 10 broken ribs, broken collarbone, broken finger and ligament damage to my knee.
It will be a good 6 weeks of recovery and then hopefully back to redeem some points and have a stronger finish to the second half of the season.
The support and well wishes i have recieved from the racing fraternity this week have simply been amazing and very much appreciated.
Thanks as always to Webb Racing and all my team mates for getting everything sorted. Thanks goes out to Josh van der Putten for stripping the bike, Geoff Webb for sourcing the new parts, Peter Mceldowney and Leigh Stanitz for getting my gear home, Mathew and Kylie Bear for helping Clarissa and myself deal with the aftermath, Harley Phipps for taxi duties, Michael Webb for the x rays, Bob Sellers, Juggy Jones and Chris Gerrard for taking time out to visit me in hospital, Chris van der Putten for helping pack up my gear, trauma doctors and nurses at RHH and of course Clarissa Briggs for being beside me the whole way. Many people came together to help me and i appreciate all of you.
Now for some bike maintenance and recovery time. So proud to be a part of the Webb Racing Team, you have built something special....Mates Helping Mates.
