🐎 David Vandyke is not only pleased with a recent purchased but also how the results have fallen his way since.

With form around the likes of Pembrey and Chilly Girl, it is unsurprising that David Vandyke is upbeat about the prospects of Oregon Coast at Ipswich on Wednesday. READ MORE ➑ https://bit.ly/4wWRGDx

🐎 PAUL Butterworth’s career has a habit of turning on lucky moments, such as trainer Barry Miller offering the then 31-year-old greenhorn a job.

Butterworth bought Whistling Loren cheaply in 2020. Two years later, after 11 starts and four placings, she fractured a knee and her racing career was over.

Paul and her other owners put her through the sale ring. There was no interest, so they bought her back.

Paul told the story in the raceday stalls at Ipswich recently, after his filly Raging Raider, the first foal out of Whistling Loren, won her first race.

Whistling Loren is by Vancouver out of Miss Loren, who has also produced the Paul Snowden-trained Raging Force, by Cosmic Force, and Vantorix, by Captivant.

He was born Barry but was known as Keith. Most knew him as Selfie: an Ipswich larrikin, punter, businessman and family man; the sort of bloke you felt better for having seen.

Keith Self died peacefully on July 24, aged 81. His memorial service on August 5 – his birthday - brought family and friends together to celebrate a life full of stories, schemes, work, mischief, kindness, laughter and love.

Keith and his wife Robyn were married for 61 and a half years and they raised two children: Sherree, married to Bruce, and Mick, married to Melissa.

After finishing at North Ipswich State School in 1958, Keith worked at Burroughs Business Machines in Brisbane before building a career around cars.

Racing was one of Keith’s great loves. A race named after him was run at Ipswich two days after his funeral. Robyn said Keith would have loved that.

To his grandchildren, Keith was hardworking, intelligent, adventurous, generous and β€œalways up to something.” There were always stories, often beginning with: β€œDon’t tell Nanna.”

🐎 Veteran trainer happy to give punters the Runaround Sue.

Races over such short trips like 800-metres are not seen that often in other places but Ipswich presents enough opportunities over the sprint distance for trainers like Pat Webster to make the most of.

The training journeyman has two runners in the Barrier Reef Pools Benchmark 65 Handicap on Thursday including Runaround Sue who is looking to continue her respectable record at the course. READ MORE ➑ https://bit.ly/4qCh5Rz
