GEORGE TRAINS A TREBLE
THE RUN HOME

Garry George (Beulah) had a night to remember at Bendigo last Friday training three winners from four runners on the night with Texas Toast, Air Speed and Flying Intention all saluting, we then had a further four trainers successful for the week, team Fullerton (Red Cliffs), Paul Hammerstein (Horsham), Andrea Gurry (Nhill) and the Robinson team (Avoca).

Dash Express kicked it all off for the Fullerton/Docking team last Tuesday at Horsham, last away Dash Express mustered up quickly on the 5th event on the card, on turning through the corner Dash worked his way to third and was closing, on straightening Dash balanced up found a rails run and stormed home grabbing race leader Tick Returns right on the post to win by a head in 23:48sec.

Paul Hammerstein then ventured to Bendigo with his charge Power Edition; the fawn chaser didn’t disappoint stepping straight to the front from the wide draw and simply gave nothing else a chance stretching out beautifully and greeting the judge first four lengths to the good in 23:95sec.

Genesis Bale for Andrea Gurry was away only fairly when he stepped out at Warrnambool on Thursday night, by the corner he’d improved his position to fourth but with work to do, on straightening for home he was looming large and the leader How Awesome was in his sights, Genesis rounded up How Awesome and drew clear scoring comfortably in a speedy 22:09sec.

Garry George then made the trip to Bendigo on Friday with four runners and turned in three winners on the night. Texas Toast was the first of the three, beginning fairly Texas Toast was forced to work her way through the field down the back straight, she found the fence entering the corner and began to take some ground off the early leaders, on straightening for home she railed up and took the lead halfway down the home straight and clung on for dear life finally breaking her maiden with a run of 24:25sec. Air Speed was second to salute, jumping from box seven Air Speed absolutely flew the lids and gave nothing else a chance cruising to a two and a half length victory in the nice time of 23:85sec. George rounded it out with Flying Intention who kept her winning streak alive but this week she had to do it the hard way and come from behind as early leader Sweet Love set a break up on Flying Intention, but as good dogs do she balanced up and quickly overhauled Sweet Love going on to win by near on three lengths in a best of the night time of 23:70sec. Flying Intention has now won six of her seven starts for George including her last four in a row.

Committee member Ian Robinson then rounded out the week with a victory at Ballarat on Saturday, Pyrenees Wh**ky began well from out wide and mustered up quickly to circle the field and take the lead and on straightening for home he had a winning break on the field cruising to a two-length victory in 22:40sec.

GURRY TRAINS TRIFECTA

Andrea Gurry (Nhill) pulled off a rare feat last Tuesday at Horsham training a kennel trifecta in the fourth race on the card when Paw Harkonnen defeated Starship Atlas and Lektra Jimmy. Paw Harkonnen’s victory made it a treble of winners for Gurry for the period. Michael Callanan (Horsham) struck again with Can Do Grace, Garry George (Beulah) landed twice with Flying Intention and team Hartigan (Horsham) took out back-to-back wins at Mount Gambier with Tabasco Fiasco (pictured winning).

It was Can Do Grace that kicked it all off for Michael Callanan venturing to Warrnambool on the 5th of October. Grace jumped well and settled second then railed up turning for home hit the lead and ran away with the race stopping the clock in a nice 22:36sec. Owned by Wayne Oliver of Horsham Can Do Grace has now won three of her past nine with two minor placings.

Andrea Gurry then had the first of her three victors with Lektra Bills spearing the lids at Horsham and simply giving nothing else a chance with a brilliant front running display stopping the clock in 23:64sec. Gurry then ventured to Warrnambool and Paw Saundra stepped beautifully over the 390m journey and from the inside draw was able to push up and lead and once leading Saundra was never for catching pulling away to a four length victory in a very smart 22:18sec. It was then the highlight of the week for Gurry, training the trifecta at Horsham last Tuesday. Paw Harkonnen was away midfield but railed hard through the turn working his way to second behind kennel mate Starship Atlas who had pinched a nice break but Harkonnen balanced up in the straight and stormed down the outside grabbing Startship Atlas in the shadows of the post pulling away for a strong victory in 23:48sec with the ever-consistent Lektra Jimmy rounding out the top three.

Garry George’s kennel star Flying Intention then doubled up for the period saluting on the 7th and 15th of October at Ballarat. Both starts Flying Intention displayed her customary electric early speed busting up the field early doors. On the 7th of October she was challenged late but hung tough to win by a head in a quick 21:96sec, on the 15th of October this wasn’t the case as she eased to a three-length win in a flying 21:83sec. Since joining George’s kennel Flying Intention has had six starts for five wins and one third.

The Hartigan team then made back-to-back road trips to Mount Gambier on the 11th and 18th of October with their white and fawn chaser Tabasco Fiasco saluting on both days. Drawn wide on the 11th of October Fiasco over the 305m journey began beautifully and crossed the field with relative ease, in doing so the race was effectively over as she cruised to a four-length victory in a quick 17:51sec. Seven days later and Fiasco once again drew wide in the eight box, jumping on terms she was forced to work extremely hard to cross but she did so just before the corner and once again she wasn’t for catching extending to an easy victory in a flying 17:43sec.
