Robyn did so many hours in the canteen kitchen today, she forgot to take off her apron when it was her turn to take the court.

If you could pop in tomorrow for an hour or two to help the canteen staff out it would be most appreciated.

MIA OPEN CANTEEN HELP REQUIRED

A huge part of the success of our annual MIA Open Tournament is ensuring our spectators and players have a great choice of delicious food and we would greatly appreciate your help in ensuring that we can provide this amazing facility.
We are asking for volunteers to help in the following areas.

All parents/carers of our junior players are encouraged to place their name on the roster and help for at least one designated time slot (2hrs) during the duration of the tournament.
Any other club members who may be in attendance or willing to pop down for a couple of hours to help would be greatly appreciated. You can change your slot later if it clashes with a match.
Slots will be: 830 am to 1030am, 1030am to 1230pm, 1230pm to 230pm, 230pm to 430pm and 430pm to 630pm for each of the days over the June Long Weekend. Comment below to let us know what slot or please message us.

The first Wednesday Night Mixed Tennis Competition Grand Final of the year was held last week. Regardless of whether they were fighting for first place, every team got to enjoy a night of tennis followed by an end-of-season presentation.

The main match of the night saw STRINGS ATTACHED and SHUD versing each other for the winning title. The rivalry between these two teams has lived through some teammate changes over the years, with this season marking their fourth consecutive grand final battle. Both teams were on their toes as one of the first sets of the nights involved STRINGS ATTACHED’s Xavier and Darren making a comeback against SHUD’s Connor and Roseanne from 4-1 down to even the score at 5-5. However, Connor and Roseanne were able to hold their composure win the set 6-5. While both teams won three sets throughout the night, STRINGS ATTACHED ended up with three extra game points overall to take the win for the season!

BITS & PIECES and WHATEVER didn’t let not being in the main final match stop them from playing like they were. This drive was reflected in the highlight from the match which detailed WHATEVER’s Robyn being “mean to an old, opposing player by putting in a short return and making him pull a calf muscle.” At the end of the night, there were only two game points between the teams with WHATEVER taking the win.

SUPER COOL versed KISS MY 4 ACES, or more accurately, the team full of “super-subs” last Wednesday. It was reported as “a great night of tennis, full of plenty of slices and smashes.” KISS MY 4 ACES (“the super-subs”) pulled together some strong competition for the final night to end on a win before the off-season break.

The wooden spoon was at stake in the match between YOUNG GUNS and KISS MY ACE. “With back to back wooden spoons on the line, KISS MY ACE started strong, going down [in one of the first sets] 6-0.” However, this was their only nought for the night, with sets including plenty of long rallies and deuces. In the end both teams got a win, with YOUNG GUNS winning the match and KISS MY ACE winning the season’s wooden spoon.

Other notable achievements from the end-of-season presentation include SUPER COOL’s Bevan winning the coveted “Gail award” and regular fill-in, Tania, being named “super sub” of the season!
