Seib Hoping Highway Brings An End To Mare’s Xcessive Misfortune

It’s been something of a disastrous preparation for talented mare Xcessive Force and trainer Danielle Seib would like to think she can salvage something at Scone on Saturday.

She started the campaign as a leading hope for the Country Championships but was brought undone by a series of bad luck in running and wide barriers through the qualifying series.

Seib hopes that can change in the TAB Highway (1600m) where she claims away from the top weights and has a draw that shouldn’t see her stuck off the track.

“An absolutely luckless preparation,’’ Seib said.

“She’s been caught deep, tracks didn’t play to our favour from those draws either. We couldn’t even ride quiet and come down the middle.

“It’s disappointing because she had such an impeccable record and she’s not viewed in such a progressive light now.

“She’s been continuing to race well, just the results don’t reflect her performance.”

Seib is giving well bred filly Wear The Crown her shot at a stakes race in the Listed $200,000 Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) on the back of three straight country wins.

The three-year-old is already valuable being by I Am Invincible out of a mare called Macroura, who is a three-quarter sister to Sunshine In Paris, and is building a handy record.

“This has been in the back of our mind all preparation. She’s a lovely filly, she’s stepped up every time she’s gone to the races,’’ she said.

“She’s not a 1000m horse, she did a great job first and second-up this preparation to win over the 1000m. I think the rise to 1100m will suit her and she’s back to fillies.

“You can’t do more than win and she’s done that.”

The Denise’s Joy last year was won by Summer Flame who started $61.
