Thank you to all our members for making today such a tremendous celebration of Helensvale Golf Club’s 50th Anniversary. ⛳🎉

A special thank you to our outstanding greenkeeping team for presenting the course in fantastic condition, and to Karen, Duane, Jackie, Jack, and Okdania for all your hard work behind the scenes to help make the day such a success.

It was wonderful to see so many members come together to celebrate 50 years of great golf, great friendships, and great memories.

Some History of the helensvale golf course as we celebrate 50 years

Helensvale first opened with 9 holes in December 1975 and officially opened in June 1976 as 18 holes. There were 7 par 3’s which had a bearing on scoring well on this course.
Helensvale was one of the first sporting clubs in Australia to offer full membership to both Men and Women giving equal voting rights
Original Membership consisted of 240 members but mushroomed to 1010 members
The course was designed by Billy See-Hoe who was the Pro at Surfers Paradise Golf Club at that time.
Randall Vines was the Pro, with Brandon Coleman as his employee.
President was Ron Penhaligon
Captain was Raj Bendixon
Greenkeeper was Billy Tooma
When Randall left, Brandon took over as the Club Professional
The Club had been extended 3 times in the early years consisting of 2 tennis courts and a swimming pool. The Glassed-in front gave unrestricted views to many parts of the golf course
As for the course, a good example of Helensvale’s hidden difficulty can be gauged by the fact that in 1977 no professional had shot lower than 62.
Brandon Coleman holds the course record on the old course with a 57.
Gavin Hills currently holds the course record on the new course with a 63
In the 1980’s the course was extended to a Par 70 for the men and a Par 72 for the Ladies. This took out 3 par 3’s all on the front 9.
The course has many difficulties, which includes OB and Waterways on most holes, Accuracy was the name of the game.

Helensvale Golf Club was officially opened by The Premier Joh Beilke Petersen.

Today, Helensvale Golf Club is being Managed by the Lawton Family who brought it back from the brink of destruction in 2019 to being a very popular and affordable golf course on the Gold Coast
