in the NOGI section if this vid i was playing with different entries to ashi garami you will see i get one from side control by isolating the top leg allowing a back step entry.
also a entery from a stack pass using an inversion and coming back to the same side as the stack pass to maintain control of the legs.
I see ashi garami as a control that can lead to a sub but it can also lead to many another areas like sweeps, back takes and other transitions.
and i see it as a huge mistake to simply focus on leg finishes from this position when it has so mush more to offer.
Iits kind of like only focusing on a triangle from closed guard when you have so many options and tools to work with to developed the position to gain more options.

SUBMISSIONS IN KIDS JIU JITSU, HOW WE APPROACH THEM AT DC JIU JITSU.

We have absorbed many academies in our area allow kids to do submissions with little to know real understanding of the fundamentals or core concepts of jiu jitsu.

At DC Jiu Jitsu, we believe learning submissions is an important part of developing a complete Jiu Jitsu athlete. However, when working with children, safety, control and understanding always comes first.

Our kids submission training is designed to be age, belt and skill level appropriate.

Children are taught that a submission is a controlled technique, not an opportunity to hurt their training partner.

We want our students to develop the ability to control their own body and their partner's body before developing the ability to finish a submission.

Key learning points we teach the kids while learning submissions
- Applying techniques slowly and with control.
- Understanding when a submission is secured.
- Recognising when their training partner has tapped.
- Releasing the submission immediately when their partner taps.
- Communicating with their training partner.
- Rspecting their partner's safety at all times.
- Never forcing a submission through resistance or pain.

SUBMISSIONS ARE EARNED THROUGH DEVELOPMENT
As students more experienced and demonstrate the required technical and behavioural maturity, submissions can be introduced progressively.

Starting Jiu Jitsu can be overwhelming.
There are new positions, techniques, movements, terminology and situations to learn and sometimes it can feel like there is simply too much to take in.

As a white belt, you don't need to know everything.

In fact, trying to learn everything at once can make the beginning of your Jiu Jitsu journey even more difficult.

so in this video we talk about what a white belt in jiu jitsu should focus on.

In this clip i talk about what i feel white belts training jiu jits...

Today we celebrate all the incredible dads who are part of our DC Jiu Jitsu family.

Thank you for leading by example every day, showing your children the values of discipline, respect, courage, resilience and hard work both on and off the mats.

Whether you're sharing the mats with your kids, training after a long day at work, supporting your family from the sidelines, you are helping build a stronger community and inspiring the next generation.

We hope you have an amazing Father's Day filled with family, laughter and plenty of special moments.

Happy Father's Day to all the DC Jiu Jitsu dads!

Free rolling rounds to finish
all drilling and rounds are 4 min to represent a competition round.

At DC Jiu Jitsu or classes are planned in a way to maximise student development and understanding of jiu jitsu.
Skill acquisition and understanding training and mat culture is the key to developing high level students and a safe training environment.
At DCJJ we work off the D.E.C.A method
Defence - Escape - Control - Attack
meaning we develop strong foundations of control and defence before moving to submissions.
all grappling arts work from a "Position over Submission" as a over laying concept and BJJ is no different.

We often see academies teaching submissions much to early into a student's development resulting in jiu jitsu that looks sloppy and uncontrolled and worse yet unsafe !

Ture dominance on the mats does not come from a quick submissions, it is shown in domination and control of position.
and for long term development to a high level jiu jitsu / grappling this foundation must be built strong. !!!!
