Pilates for a Purpose: The Pilates Way Supports Cambodia Vision!!

Pilates Fundraiser — Sunday 4 October, 10:00am–12:30pm
The Pilates Way is teaming up with studio member Helen Summers OAM, one of the Northern Territory’s most well-known and respected optometrists, to support people in need in Cambodia Vision Inc.
We invite you to join us for a special fundraising event supporting Cambodia Vision, an Australian-based volunteer organisation whose aim is to “give the gift of sight.”
Each year, Cambodia Vision sends a medical team to a remote region of Cambodia to provide cataract procedures, blindness prevention, hearing tests and basic medical care — completely free of charge to local communities. This October, Helen will return to Cambodia for her fourth year as part of the volunteer team.
Helen has shared some of her experiences from previous missions:
“The people we care for are just so poor, so humble and so grateful because the services we provide often change their lives. Our volunteer team, consisting of optometrists, surgeons, nurses, orthoptists, translators and many others, treated more than 2,000 people, including 260 surgeries. We had people who had travelled for days in need of care, while others patiently waited hours and days to be seen.” (Helen Summers, 2023, Mivsion.com.au, media.bupa.com.au)
For the past four years, we have watched Helen travel to Cambodia to volunteer with Cambodia Vision. Each year, she returns with inspiring — and sometimes heartbreaking — stories of the people the team was able to help, as well as those they simply didn’t have the capacity to reach.

***Be part of the day! ****
See the attached flyer or visit the website for full details and information, book online (select 4 Oct in the calendar to find the classes) or contact The Pilates Way studio on 0424 261 264.

The fundraiser will be held on Sunday, 4 October at Darwin Community Arts in Coconut Grove, and include:
Introductory Pilates Mat Class (10am)— suitable for beginners
Q&A with Helen Summers (11am)
Open Pilates Mat Class (11.30am)— for those with some experience, with some

**Don't forget to donate your pre-loved glasses**
Helen will be taking donated pre-loved glasses with her to Cambodia to help people in need. Donations can be dropped off:
At the fundraising event
At The Pilates Way studio
At Bupa Optical – Helen Summers Optometrists in Parap

We hope you can join us for a morning of Pilates, community and fundraising for a wonderful cause.

For more information, please don’t hesitate to contact The Pilates Way studio.

A personal note and bit of non-Pilates based inspiration for your Friday! As many of you may know (because Ive been talking about it all week) my young cousin Dusty, an absolute champion of a human being is currently walking 540km to Canberra raise money and awareness for better access to healthcare for kids in the bush. He is also planning to have a yarn with Albo, and hit him up to match the funds he raises! Check out his story on TODAY and support him if you can! https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19f4AZ5N5x/
