Proud dad moment.

Rosie has dodged a few classes this term being a 5yr old grown ass independent woman...

And so grading week was upon us. And I know how hard the gradings are.
We played at home and practiced, however Rosie wasn't supposed to grade on Tuesday as she was to be hanging out with Uncle and Aunty.
As it turned out, Rosie was at the grading on Tuesday.
Spoke to her and said that we will use it as a practice for Thursday.

Little legend did everything and got her stripe.
As always, parents can't grade their kids as the bias is either there or too strict.
So the coaches put her through her paces.

Gradings are earned, not given.
Stripe one, give everything a go, doesn't have to be perfect, but you must try. Your coaches will help you with hints and tips
Stripe two, make less mistakes. Listen, learn and demonstrate. Coaches will give you very few hints or tips. You must also be able to tie your own belt.
Stripe three, do everything from the term without any help. Coaches will give you nada.
Stripe 4, your coaches will stare at you dispassionately while you fail.

Belt, demonstrate everything, from every term, under pressure.

I am so proud of these kids for developing the resilience under pressure, and the recovery after every failed attempt. Because that is what matters. Keep going until you succeed.
There will be tears. However, those years make it that much sweeter when that stripe is awarded, or that belt is tied around your waist, because you know you have earned this.

We go round 2 on Thursday.
I am so proud of you all.

Friday was a magical day at DC.

Receiving your Black Belt is a milestone and it was so beautiful to have the crew come and participate as these 2 awesome individuals were celebrated.

who has seen these 2 grow over the years.
for joining us in celebrating these 2.

Rowan and Ben have well and truly earned their Black Belts. Ability is one thing. Knowledge is another. But the time and effort these 2 have put into the development of everyone. And I mean everyone, whether they are white belts or seasoned practitioners, from DC or visiting from other clubs, that for me is the true worth in a Black Belt, to see the art develop and grow.

Congratulations and well deserved.

Big day on the mats yesterday with three of our crew stepping up to compete — Matt, Kate, and Austin.

Special mention to Matt and Kate, who both jumped into their first ever competition. That first step is always the hardest — dealing with the nerves, the pressure, and the unknown — and they handled it with real composure and grit.

Austin continues to build, showing more experience each time out and putting in solid work across his matches.

Win, lose, or draw, competition is just a snapshot. What matters is having the courage to test yourself, to stay calm under pressure, and to keep moving forward. Proud of all three for getting out there and representing.

We also found out that Ben owns shoes.

Jerry Wetzel is the founder and creator of the Red Zone self preservation system and he will running the edged weapon component of the system.

Edged weapon crime and assaults are occurring more frequently.

Great to say “It wouldn’t happen to me” however the person who thinks that is often found saying “I never thought that would happen to me”, that is, if they are lucky enough to survive the encounter.

This workshop will give you the tools and knowledge to respond and navigate the pre-contact of a knife attack as well as options to engage and control the weapon bearing limb, taking it to the ground where the knife can be removed from the situation.

*REMINDER TO ALL PARENTS*
Although the kidlets are on holidays for school, week 10 of the DCKids program is still on this week at usual class times :)
So drop them off to burn off some energy during games week!

For all of our other kids programs, kids 4-8, Kids MT and Kids BJJ 9-15's, classes as usual as we train year round (with exception of Xmas shutdown).

If you are looking to get your kids involved with our sessions, the best time is during the school holidays...bonus is it is one of the greatest ways to burn off some of that holiday energy and keep the learning going.
