Awase (the practice of meeting, connecting, and blending) was at the heart of our recent seminar with Christian Taschner Sensei.

Throughout the seminar, Christian Sensei guided and instructed us in our learning of Bukiwaza techniques (sword / bone, jo staff, and tanto) as well as Taijutsu (open handed) techniques.

Since 2001, Christian Sensei regularly travels to Japan and trains in the founder’s dojo in Iwama. He trained under Saito Morihiro Sensei and after his passing, he has continued his Aikido studies when in Japan under Shigemi Inagaki Sensei. Christian Sensei teaches Aikido in the tradition of Saito Morihiro Shihan since 2000 when he started his own dojo in Germany. He opened his dojo in Germany 25 years ago and since then has been
regularly invited to teach seminars in Sweden, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany and now Australia!

We are deeply grateful for the generosity, clarity, and depth of his teaching!

The spirit of awase was present in the gathering itself. It was wonderful to welcome Aikido practitioners from Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne, as well as members of our local Aikido community. Each person brought their own experience, enthusiasm, curiosity, and good ki to the mat. Together, they created a rich and generous environment in which we could all learn.

A seminar is shaped by the teacher, and also by the willingness of everyone present to practise openly, learn from one another, and contribute to the shared experience.

Our sincere thanks to Christian Taschner Sensei for his wonderful teaching, and to everyone who travelled, trained, helped, and contributed to such a memorable weekend.

We look forward to meeting and training together again.
