Muddies Community Update 🏏

Muddies CC is proud to be hosting today’s Brisbane Women’s Cricket – Open Women’s (3rd Grade) clash at Judy Holt 1, with Wynnum/Manly taking on Valley’s.

While we don’t currently field a women’s side of our own, it’s always special to see cricket being played at Muddies — and even better when one of our own juniors is out there making her mark.

A huge congratulations to Eve Lyndon-Floate, who is making her senior debut for Wynnum/Manly today after coming through the junior ranks with Muddies.

And what a start she’s had.

Valley’s were bowled out for 73, with Eve producing an outstanding spell of 2/11 from 5 overs, including 2 maidens in her first senior appearance.

It’s fantastic to see our juniors progressing through the ranks and performing on the bigger stage. The entire Muddies community is incredibly proud.

Well done Eve — a debut to remember! 💚👏

The nerves before you walk out to bat.
The sound of the ball coming out of the middle.
The joy of watching it race to the boundary.

If you’ve still got it in you — now’s the time.

🏆 O40s PREMIERS 🏆

A dominant 96-run win to secure the championship — built on big moments and even bigger performances.

With the bat, Jon Pearson set the tone early with a positive 21 (18), taking the attack on from ball one.

Peter Fitzpatrick steadied things with a crucial 33 (44), before producing a genuine all-round masterclass with 4/7 (4) to break the game wide open.

Mark McCabe’s 29 (24) kept the momentum rolling and ensured the pressure stayed firmly on.

And then there was Merrick Robertson.
An outstanding spell of 3/7 (5) that tightened the screws early and never let the opposition settle. Control, discipline and class when it mattered most.

🦀 THE GREAT MUDDIES FIGHTBACK 🦀

Muddies Match Report Rd 12 vs Moggill – 2 Day Home Game

Losing the toss, Moggill sent Muddies into bat on a wicket with plenty of moisture and even more danger. There was a lot on offer for the bowlers and it showed early.

Johnny dug in and set the tone with a gritty 36 (98) on a pitch that was doing plenty, fighting for every run. Shaun Blake added some much-needed spark with a quick-fire 25 (38), but aside from that the scorecard made for tough reading. Noah Telford was just starting to find his rhythm before running out of partners.

Muddies all out for 125.

By the time Moggill came out to bat, the baking sun had transformed the wicket. The moisture had disappeared and suddenly the conditions favoured the batters. Moggill’s openers got moving with scores in the mid 20s and although Jacob Richardson broke the partnership, Moggill finished Day 1 at 1/58 and very much in control.

Day 2. Game on.

Two set batters at the crease. Scoreboard pressure mounting. But this Muddies side has built something this season — belief. The boys went out knowing it only takes a moment to flip a game.

And that moment came early.

On what looked like the most harmless of singles down to mid-on, Moggill forgot they’d hit it to the chef himself, Nathan Patterson was never going to turn down the offer for a BBQ. Lightning pick up. Absolute rocket of a throw. Direct hit. Off stump obliterated. Breakthrough.

Suddenly there was noise. Energy. Momentum.

Jacob Richardson and Shaun Blake tore into the middle order, ripping through wickets and dragging Muddies right back into the contest. Moggill 5/101 and wobbling.

But we still needed something special.

Enter Noah Telford.

Three straight wickets. Bang. Bang. Bang. Including the prized scalp of Moggill’s MVP. The game had completely flipped. 8/118.

Seven runs to defend.

Every ball felt like it could decide the match. Moggill nudged one backward of square and Jacob was onto it in a flash. Clean gather. Fast release. Another cannon into the stumps. One wicket left. Six runs to get.

Both teams under the pump.

The tail came out swinging, edges flying, scrambling runs. They chipped away three. Now just three runs in it.

Peter “Fitzy” Fitzpatrick had been relentless all day, holding down his end with an economy of 1.58. With the pressure at boiling point, he charged in and delivered a faster one that rushed the batter. Rocked back to cut. Too quick. Bails off.

First innings victory. Absolute scenes.

From staring down the barrel to pulling off a sensational turnaround built on belief, energy and some serious clutch moments.

In the second innings we shuffled the batting order with time on our side. Moggill came hard and hooping the ball, and a traditional Muddies wobble kept things interesting. But when Johnny Barrett and Scott Campbell settled in, they absorbed the pressure and shut the door on any hopes of a reverse outright.

A cracking game of cricket and full credit to the boys at Moggill for their sportsmanship in what turned into an absolute thriller.

Muddies now three on the trot 🦀
But the big tests are coming.

🦀 Dream Debut as Muddies Knock Off Ladder Leaders Kuraby Knights

Scott Campbell, playing his first official game for Muddies and his first ever match on turf, produced a standout performance, cracking 59* (79) to steer Muddies to a commanding win over competition leaders Kuraby Knights.
As if that wasn’t enough, he added two catches and a run out, capping off a dream debut.

Match Report
Kuraby 9/137
Muddies 3/139 (won with 13 balls to spare)

In the final One Day match of the summer season, Muddies lost the toss and were sent in to bowl. On a wicket that looked well balanced and offered consistency while still giving the bowlers something to work with, our pace attack went straight to work. Jacob Richardson struck early, rattling middle stump to claim the first wicket in the second over.

From there, the seamers applied relentless pressure, never allowing Kuraby to settle or build a meaningful partnership. Lachlan Barrett and Peter Fitzpatrick were tasked with closing out the innings. While Fitzy was unlucky not to pick up more wickets himself, his economy rate was crucial in locking down one end. Lachie, meanwhile, was virtually unplayable, finishing with an outstanding 3/20 (6). A complete bowling performance restricted Kuraby to 9/137.

Chasing the target required discipline, something Muddies have consistently shown this season. Opener John Barrett did what Johnny does best, calmly navigating the new ball and laying a strong foundation. Enter Scott Campbell at number four, playing his first turf match and returning to cricket after a 10 year hiatus. Strong performances in the nets earned him the role, and he repaid that faith in spades with a composed, intelligent innings.

When it was time to accelerate, Scotty and Shaun Blake put their foot down. Shaun’s physio will be licking his lips knowing he won't lose him as a client anytime soon as his back was working overtime on a few air swings, but when Shaun connected, the ball was heading straight for the car park. It was a thrilling chase and an exciting game to be part of and witness.

P.S. I missed last week’s match report due to food poisoning, but it was another outstanding team performance. Fitzy bagged a 5fa, putting us in a position to enforce the follow on. A huge effort all round to bag the victory.

🦀 Seniors C2 – Day 1 Match Recap vs Ashgrove Astronauts

A sunny day in Enoggera saw Muddies lose the toss, with Ashgrove electing to bat and Muddies sent out to field. On a pitch that had plenty to offer the bowlers, the openers got to work early, with Jacob Richardson snaring three quick wickets to put Ashgrove on the back foot at 3/8.

Ashgrove were able to fight their way back, and despite the occasional wicket falling, they built a strong eighth-wicket partnership much to the frustration of Muddies. However, Noah Telford found the crucial breakthrough before Jacob Richardson cleaned up the tail with a spectacular 5/23 off 9.2 overs.

With just over an hour remaining in the day’s play, Muddies were tasked with chasing down 148 for a first-innings victory and unfortunately lost two early scalps in John and Bernie, which had the team worried. But Noah Telford and Peter Fitzpatrick batted superbly through 45 minutes — and may even be in line for a call-up from the English squad, as I hear they’re advertising for batsmen who value their wicket.

Play finished with Muddies at 2/41 (22), requiring 108 more runs for victory next Saturday. Let’s go, boys! 💪🏏
