The City of Greater Bendigo has expressed its sympathies following the death of councillor Donna Nicholas.
Ms Nicholas was elected to the Lockwood Ward in March this year and was “eager to learn and contribute”.
She was a grandmother and had a passion for animals and horse riding.
Bendigo Mayor Thomas Prince and chief executive Andrew Cooney said they were grateful for Ms Nicholas’ dedication to her role.
They said she had a “genuine commitment to serving her community” and was “quickly immersed herself in the responsibilities of local government”.
“She was committed to attending community meetings and events, and had a wonderful, natural way of engaging with people that quickly endeared her to fellow councillors, staff and members of the community,” they said.
“She approached every interaction with kindness, authenticity and a genuine interest in others.
“Our thoughts are with Donna’s husband Drew, her son Cody and his partner Ella, and her beloved granddaughter, Stella.”
