🥊 FRIDAY AFTERNOON SPORT AT HBC 🥊

Today we had the Year 9 boys from Glasshouse Christian College down at Hinterland Boxing Club for their Friday afternoon sport session.

The boys worked through a range of boxing-specific skill development, including partner work, technical drills and boxing-based combinations.

What really stood out was their intent, application and attitude throughout the session. The boys pushed themselves, worked hard, listened, and showed excellent discipline and respect. They were true sportsmen from start to finish.

👏 Credit to Glasshouse Christian College and the boys themselves — it’s a pleasure to work with such a high-achieving school and to be part of a program that encourages discipline, fitness, teamwork and personal development.

It has been a genuine pleasure to work with Glasshouse Christian College for over the past five years, and we’re extremely proud to continue being part of their Friday Sport Program.

We look forward to continuing this partnership and working with the school and its students for many years to come.

🥊 INTERNATIONAL GOLDEN GLOVES — A BIG DAY FOR HBC

Today was another huge day at the International Golden Gloves, with two of our athletes stepping through the ropes and both showing what boxing is really about.

🥊 Hayley

After 12 months out of the ring, Hayley finally made her return to competition.

At the start of 2026, Hayley relocated from Townsville with her daughter to come and train at HBC, and after months of hard work and preparation, she finally got her opportunity to get back in the ring.

Coming back into the amateurs, she drew a Japanese international who is also an Olympian — about as tough a return as you could ask for.

There was understandably some ring rust, but Hayley showed plenty of glimpses of the boxer she can be and the level she can reach. She stayed composed, competed hard and gave a very good account of herself going down on points in a highly competitive bout.

A massive effort from Hayley. The journey back has only just begun. 👊

🥊 Caleb

Then we had Caleb, who after just six months of training, stepped into the ring for his very first bout.

The commitment and dedication Caleb has shown to turn up to training day in, day out has been outstanding — and today he showed incredible bravery by getting in there and putting it all on the line.

He finished the job in the second round with a body shot, getting the stoppage in his first-ever fight.

But for Caleb, today was about more than winning a boxing match.

Boxing teaches you lessons that extend far beyond the ring. Today Caleb learned that no matter how hard life gets, you can keep fighting. You can keep pushing forward. And if you keep fighting, keep working and refuse to quit, you give yourself every opportunity to succeed.

Two very different journeys. Two great performances. One thing in common — they both showed courage.

Raphael’s First Fight 🥊

What a moment for Raphael at the International Golden Gloves.

I’ve been working with Raphael since he was just 5 years old, and now, having just turned 10, he stepped into the ring for his very first bout.

He was involved in a really competitive contest and showed plenty of courage, composure and determination. He went down on points, but what impressed me most was the way he closed out the final round. He kept pushing, kept listening and finished strongly.

For a 10-year-old having his first ever fight, there was plenty to be proud of.

There’s a lot of promise there if Raphael continues to work hard, stay disciplined and enjoy the journey. The foundations are being built now, and I’m excited to see where he can take it.

Well done, Raph. Your boxing journey has officially begun. 🥊💙

🏆 HBC NUMBER 24 — A NUMBER THAT HAS TO BE EARNED

Today we officially awarded Alex his HBC number — No24.

For 14 years, hundreds of boxers have walked through the doors of Hinterland Boxing Club. In that time, only 24 athletes have been awarded an official HBC number. Interestingly, 5 times that number have actually boxed for the club — so this isn’t something handed out for simply turning up and putting on the gloves.

It represents resilience, competitiveness, humility, respect, commitment, and the willingness to win — while still representing yourself, your opponent, and our club the right way.

Alex has consistently demonstrated all of these qualities, both inside and outside the ring. He has represented HBC with pride, worked through adversity, and continued to push himself against some of the best competition in the world.

So No 24 is well deserved. 👊🥊

The uniform was actually sitting there ready to go after being allocated for Alex’s Commonwealth Games campaign. Unfortunately, that didn’t eventuate— so we would like to thank taxpayers for funding a bloody good HBC No24 uniform! 😂🇦🇺

Congratulations Alex. No24 — earned, not given.

10 years of age. Having his first fight at the International Golden Gloves next Wednesday in Brisbane.

Raph is one of a team of 5 we are taking for this week long event.

Over 900 boxer coming from as far as England and Japan.
