This weekend we had Sahara, Hunter and Noah travel to Papua New Guinea with Coach Derek for the Kokoda Cup.

Sahara and Hunter went down in competitive bouts. Hunters opponent made a mistake with his year of birth on his birth certificate, if that kid was 10 years of age I’ll s**t in my hands and clap.

Noah put in a great performance against the PNG Commonwealth Games representative coming away with a solid win.

Overall what a great experience for the kids. It’s all a part of learning and development and is a great inspiration for other kids in gym of what can be achieved with hard work.

Another international tournament for HBC

Last spar in Australia for Alex before we leave for the World Cup in China on Tuesday.

Our Team mate Luke has two big fights coming up on June 6 and 24 in Brisbane.

Following the World Cup both Steve and Alex will continue on to Belgium and Belfast with the Australian Commonwealth Games Team to help the Team prepare.

Thanks to Steele from Rhino Flooring and Dean from Dean Ryan Farrieing for jumping on board to sponsor Alex.

I’ve got no doubt that sessions like these — windy, cold, end of the week when most people are looking for excuses — are the sessions that produce results.

I’ve lost count of how many Fridays i have sacrificed chasing the goal, but I’ve never lost sight of why.

That consistency, discipline, and willingness to keep stacking hard days together is what builds champions

28 May 1991, Harry Costi opened West End Boxing Gym in Brisbane 35 years ago today.

In March 2010, the gym moved to become Coorparoo Boxing Gym, while brothers Khuram and Kamran Nasir took over the original gym and formed Brisbane Boxing.

I started Boxing at the Fortitude Valley PCYC under Shane Knox in 1999. Between 2006 and 2009 at West End, under Harry and Paul Rees, I achieved the most in my career — earning State and National honours. More importantly, I learnt life lessons and built friendships that will last a lifetime.

Now Paul coaches alongside me at HBC… talk about coming full circle.

Some of the best memories of my life were made at West End Boxing Gym.

Hard work. Courage. Belief. 🥊🏅

At only 10 years old, this young champion stepped into the ring, challenged himself, and came home with medals earned through dedication and heart.

Success in boxing isn’t just about winning — it’s about discipline, resilience, respect, and having the courage to keep showing up.

Proud of the effort, attitude, and growth shown every day in the gym. This is only the beginning. 👊

We’re not just building athletes — we’re building confident young people ready for life’s challenges.
