ANA Rowing Club

The Club for everyone who wants to row. From beginner to international competitor ANA has the facilities for all. Come down and check us out.

ANA’s boatshed and clubrooms are located at the Hinds Reserve, Bayswater. It is just upstream of the Garrat Rd Bridge with access via Milne St. We share the Reserve with Perth College Rowing and with the WAIS kayaking program, plus the many locals who use the area for canoing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, walking, running, cycling, picnics and BBQs. The Hinds Reserve is a very busy but friendly place to be. ANA members can row upstream for at least 10km, past Guildford Grammar School, until the river becomes too narrow for easy navigation. This stretch of river is wide enough to row comfortably with several boats abreast, but narrow enough to provide shelter from winds and sun. Most of it is lined with native bushland and parks and we are usually surrounded by native birdlife (black swans, pelicans, cormorants, grebes, darters) and even the occasional dolphin. We can also row downstream all the way to Fremantle (25km), or onto the Canning River all the way down to the Shelley Bridge (20km), although we normally stick to the part upstream of the Graham Farmer Freeway, with just the odd trip into Perth City. This stretch is wider, and consequently rougher, with more power boats. However, it is still almost always rowable and provides good wide straight sections for our elite and sub-elite crews to practice racing pieces.

Last Friday night’s Rower of the Year Awards at East Fremantle Yacht Club was a great night for ANA Rowing Club, bringing home the Masters Pennant and Head Race Pennant! Both are a testament to the hard work, consistency and commitment of our rowers, coaches and volunteers throughout the season.

We also celebrated some well-deserved recognition for our members who were nominated for a variety of awards: Liam Squire-Welsh was nominated for Club Coach of the Year, Russ Plaisted, Mark Easterbrook and Jarrad McNeil for the Boat Race Official Encouragement Award, and Richard Ralph was shortlisted for the Masters Oarsman of the Year. We also came second (behind PRC) in the Club of the Year award.

Congratulations to everyone recognised on the night, and to everyone who raced, coached, rigged, towed and cheered us on this season. Two pennants are a fantastic achievement, and the evening highlighted the contribution our members make to rowing across WA. 💙🚣🎉

🚣‍♀️ What a fantastic day at the ANA RC Head of the Swan 2026!

With 130 athletes taking on the challenging 8.6km course, there was plenty of determination, teamwork and competitive spirit on the water. And check out the fantastic outfits of a few of the crews! 🥳👗

A huge thank you to all the rowers, coxswains, support crew and volunteers who made the event such a success.

This ain’t the Swan River!

A small but mighty contingent of ANA rowers made the trip to Slovenia for the 2026 World Rowing Masters Regatta. In the picture-perfect surroundings, they managed to stay focused on the job at hand: racing!

Between them, they brought home one Gold, several Bronze medals, plus a bunch of impressive 4th and 6th places. They also had the opportunity to row alongside other WA rowers and competitors from around the world in composite and ‘orphan’ crews — a pretty special part of the Masters experience.

A fantastic effort from our ANA crew, and so good to see ANA represented on the world stage! Well done, everyone! 👏🌏🚣‍♀️

WA's own head race returns to the Swan, and this year there's something for everyone!

🚣 8.6km Head Race - 8:30am
Barkers Bridge to ANA. The full classic. 8+ and 4x+, Men's, Women's and Mixed, School Boys, School Girls and School Mixed divisions.

🆕 500m Novice Time Trials - 7:30am
Brand new this year, and designed for rowers who are new to racing. Two timed runs each - your best time counts. No side-by-side racing, no start-line nerves. ANARC provides the boats. Every crew rows one of our gig 4x+s, so it's identical equipment for everyone and nothing for your club to transport. Fastest three crews go through to a final.

As we charge headlong into the RWA State Championships this weekend, let's take a moment to reflect on Pennants 4, held on Saturday 29 August.
A moderately windy forecast turned quite ugly and conditions got worse and worse. So bad in fact, that the regatta had to be abandoned at the half time break (see for yourself at https://www.youtube.com/live/mZYnNnFnDU8). Our crews battled valiantly but rowing on ANA water doesn't prepare you for what they faced. At least is wasn't raining!
ANA Rowing Club hosted the event and big thanks must be sent to everyone who pitched in, from on water duties to marshalling, bow numbers, commentary and preparing and serving a delicious spread of cakes, slices, coffee and a BBQ bonanza that once again had the punters raving. We were lucky enough to have several members donate eggs and sausages, plus some bread rolls from Woolworths Inglewood.
Thanks to everyone who donated raffle items and Sarah from Hampers with Love by Sarah who used them and some of her own to create 10 wonderful hampers to raffle off.
