The Club for everyone who wants to row. From beginner to international competitor ANA has the facilities for all. Come down and check us out.

ANA’s boatshed and clubrooms are located at the Hinds Reserve, Bayswater. It is just upstream of the Garrat Rd Bridge with access via Milne St. We share the Reserve with Perth College Rowing and with the WAIS kayaking program, plus the many locals who use the area for canoing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, walking, running, cycling, picnics and BBQs. ace to be. ANA members can row upstream for at least 10km, past Guildford Grammar School, until the river becomes too narrow for easy navigation. This stretch of river is wide enough to row comfortably with several boats abreast, but narrow enough to provide shelter from winds and sun. Most of it is lined with native bushland and parks and we are usually surrounded by native birdlife (black swans, pelicans, cormorants, grebes, darters) and even the occasional dolphin. We can also row downstream all the way to Fremantle (25km), or onto the Canning River all the way down to the Shelley Bridge (20km), although we normally stick to the part upstream of the Graham Farmer Freeway, with just the odd trip into Perth City. This stretch is wider, and consequently rougher, with more power boats. However, it is still almost always rowable and provides good wide straight sections for our elite and sub-elite crews to practice racing pieces.

VALE CHRIS HAYES

It is with great sadness that we have had to say goodbye to one of our most beloved captains, coaches, mentors, and friends. Always with a ready smile, keen eye and and a helping hand Chris was an invested, enthusiastic member of the ANA team.

Intrigued by his daughter Alex's rowing endeavours, Chris found himself in a boat pretty quickly and even more rapidly in a tinny. He went on to successfully coach a range of crews, from novice to state level plus the interstate and international crews we dreamed up, including favourites such as the Head of the Yarra. Chris was well known by state and national coaches because of his enquiring mind and engaging nature, taking all opportunities to extend his coaching skills by picking their brains.

His delight in the discovery of new drills, skills and rigging was infectious. We all have fun and triumphant memories being with Chris and we will miss him so so much.

Did you see? After the Australian Masters Rowing Championships, ANA is now in second place on the Champion Club Point scoreboard behind Melbourne! 🥳

Congratulations to all competitors, coaches, volunteers and supporters who made the event such a success. It was great to see so many of our crews and boats on the course.

Well done everyone on the fantastic racing across the first three days of the AMRC. Heading into the fourth and final day, ANA is sitting in 13th place on the medals table (out of 76 clubs) with 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 8.375 Bronze medals. 🥇🥈🥉

Best of luck to everyone racing on the final day. Fingers crossed the storm front currently making its way towards Champion Lakes catches a few crabs en route instead of setting records racing to the finish line ...

As many of you know, earlier this year Dave had his scooter stolen from his home at knifepoint during a traumatic armed robbery. Unfortunately, the scooter has not been recovered, leaving Dave without reliable transport and relying mainly on walking to get around.

Beyond the trauma of the incident itself, the loss of his scooter has had a significant impact on his day-to-day life, including his ability to attend rowing regularly, which has been important for his health, wellbeing, and social connection.

Dave has also faced a number of financial challenges and has not been in a position to replace the scooter on his own.

A fundraiser has been set up to help Dave purchase a replacement scooter and regain some independence and normality. Any contribution, no matter the size, would be greatly appreciated.
