Great meetup on Saturday 30th May, with visitors from Sheffield and Blackburn, some kids with great motivation to move and wonderful weather!

A big welcome to the volunteer group to Galena (tailwalking), Mariia (tokens) and Dominik (time-keeping) – thanks for stepping up!

THANKS to all the regular volunteers, too: Gergely, Olly, Elisabeth, Richard, Peter, Silvie and Tania.

Myriam celebrated her 25th parkrun and we had a number of first-timers and personal bests, including Lenni, Helga and Raul - congratulations!

We also have some shameless plugging of

1) the Contra Dance group
>>> run by regular parkrunner Brian and his family – this is a great way to stay mentally and physically fit, meet new people and laugh a lot. The group meets once a month in a central location with live music. The dances are easy to learn and there are instructions every time. If you can walk, you can dance – even if you don’t think you have any rhythm (speaking from experience). No partners required, the dances require you to change partners, dance in lines and groups. You need to experience this!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1988238391676700/

2) Gabbiano Cafe on Zinzendorfgasse which we have tried out for the second time now. Great coffee, great service – we had a blast!

See you soon!

Report on parkrun #131:

The long weekend (after Ascension Day) brought a number of visitors to Graz including people from

- Karlsruhe
- Coventry
- Worcester
- Donaupark Vienna
- and Galway

Plus several people taking part in their first ever parkrun (yay!) and a few milestones: 25th parkrun for Johannes and Hanna and Paula’s 50th – congratulations!!

A big thanks to this week's volunteers: Sarah, Elisabeth, Shane, Stephanie, Menno, Richard, Gergely and Olly.

The weather stayed dry and conditions were all-round great. We look forward to more such parkruns before the heat of summer hits.

Apologies for the delay, but here is the report! Thank you to everyone for popping along to our 130th parkrun. We had a lovely group of 70 people embracing parkrun in Graz this past Saturday. Despite a few minor obstacles along the course, the atmosphere was brilliant and we saw 10 new PBs achieved — congratulations to all of you!

We also welcomed 13 first timers to Graz, and it was great to have visitors joining us from Vienna, Germany, New Zealand, the UK, and Ireland. parkrun really is at its best when people from different places come together for the same simple reason: a good run, walk, jog, volunteer, and chat on a Saturday morning.

A special mention as well to the sign language being used at the powow afterwards — it was great to see and a nice reminder that parkrun is for everyone. Shoutout to all deaf (park)runners and supporters in our community!

As always, a huge thank you goes to our volunteers, without whom the event simply could not happen each week. If you haven’t volunteered before and would like to give it a try sometime, we’d love to have you involved!

We hope everyone enjoyed the morning, the sunshine, and the post-parkrun chats, and we look forward to seeing you all again next Saturday for event number 131!

After the success of the London Marathon last week, there was only one event to be at today - the Stadtpark Graz parkrun, particularly as it was the 'May The Course Be With You' holiday weekend. The park was looking beautiful, the sun was shining, the bi-lingual volunteers pumped with energy and the pom-poms were shaken with endless excitement!

Our Run Director was Peter Varun Dsouza, ably assisted by Menno Fraters (who was officially timekeeper but seemed to be doing lots of other roles too - well done!), Sarah Knights (who I had been in communication with for months about whether there would be two parkruns this holiday weekend), Jonas Potthoff, Simon Black, Fumiaki Fujitaa, Kristen More, Elisabeth Lachner, Tania Pacheco, Olly Cooley, Gareth Mitchell and Nemone Van de Bliake.

Peter's motivational and 'stern' reminder to 'to enjoy yourself' was a lovely way to relax everyone and bring a smile to worried first timers and the perennially worried participants like myself. The course is duck-shaped and makes a great screenshot if you use Strava (or similar) and post your parkruns on social media. The park is a really beautiful heritage site, with a 3-lap course on wide paths and a couple of gentle inclines; what is there not to enjoy!

Parkrun tourists had travelled from far and wide including Wexford (Republic of Ireland), Munich, Wi******er, Chelmsford and Newcastle. Whilst there weren't any notable milestones, or none that were being owned up to, two first timers had made Graz their inaugural event including our very good friend Thomas Kramer (Graz local). Thomas, greatly assisted by his dog Ella, got off to a flying start, which may have worried some of the locals aiming for a PB, but was soon reigned in on laps 2 and 3. The first person to complete the course was Fumiaki Fujita with a cracking time of 17:06. In total 53 finished the course.

A big well done to everyone, volunteers, locals and visitors alike for turning up, particularly on this warm and sunny weekend, when sun-loungers may have beckoned.

Kind regards,
Brian Cox, Chelmsford

Never mind the parkrunners, last Saturday the PARK stole the show.

Stadtpark is looking gorgeous this Spring. We couldn't keep our eyes off the lilac bushes and tulips as well as the other lovely trees in bloom.

On a side note:
- we had a total of 61 parkrun finishers
- including visitors from Newcastle, Australia, and Manchester, England
- supported by 9 volunteers
- 15 motivated participants finished in their best time ever
- 5 people were here for the first time ever - if you are locals we hope to see you again!

Take care and see you soon!
