5 GREEN READING SECRETS THAT WILL LOWER YOUR SCORES ⛳️📉

Want to hole more putts? Start by improving your read before changing your stroke.

1️⃣ Read the last 3 feet first
This is where the ball is moving slowest and the break has the biggest influence.

2️⃣ Speed changes the line
There isn’t one perfect line. Firmer putts require less break, softer putts require more.

3️⃣ Find the straight putt
Understanding where straight uphill and downhill are gives you a reference for every breaking putt around the hole.

4️⃣ See the whole journey
Don’t just pick a spot. Visualise the ball travelling along the entire curve and entering the hole.

5️⃣ Commit to your read
Once you’re over the ball, stop questioning the line. Your job is now to start it on line with the correct speed.

STROKE LENGTH WORK TO IMPROVE SPEED CONTROL ⛳️

One of the biggest keys to better distance control is matching the length of your stroke to the length of the putt.

✅ Shorter putt = shorter stroke
✅ Longer putt = longer stroke
✅ Keep the tempo consistent
✅ Let stroke length create the speed

If every golfer knew this, they’d break 80 more often 👇

1️⃣ You don’t need 18 pars.
On a par 72, 11 pars and 7 bogeys is 79. Stop forcing birdies.

2️⃣ Play for your usual shot.
Choose targets around your normal miss, not the perfect shot you occasionally hit.

3️⃣ The middle of the green is underrated.
You don’t need to chase every flag to give yourself a birdie putt.

4️⃣ Club for your normal carry.
Pick the club that gets there with a typical strike—not your best ever.

5️⃣ Bogey isn’t the disaster.
After a poor shot, get back into position. Don’t turn one mistake into three.

6️⃣ Use driver when the hole allows it.
Automatically taking less club doesn’t guarantee safety. Weigh up distance and trouble.

Use a string line to separate your start line from the ball’s curved path 👇

1️⃣ Find a breaking putt and choose your intended entry speed.

2️⃣ Set the string above the ball, pointing along your chosen start line—not directly at the hole.

3️⃣ Start the ball beneath the string and let the slope move it away.

4️⃣ If you start it on line but miss, reassess your read and speed.

5️⃣ Remove the string and recreate the same putt to test your learning.

The string shows where to START the ball. Your read and speed determine where it finishes. 👊

If every golfer knew these 10 things, they would RARELY 3-putt… 👀⛳️

1️⃣ Speed is more important than line from long range — poor pace creates most 3-putts.

2️⃣ Read the final third first — this is where the ball is moving slowest and breaking the most.

3️⃣ Pick an entry speed — your read changes depending on how fast you want the ball reaching the hole.

4️⃣ Know your uphill vs downhill adjustments — the same length putt can require completely different energy.

5️⃣ Focus on proximity, not holing it — from long range, your priority is making the second putt easy.

6️⃣ Build a consistent strike — off-centre contact destroys predictable distance control.

7️⃣ Match stroke length to distance — don’t manipulate speed by suddenly hitting the ball harder.

8️⃣ Practice breaking lag putts — straight putts don’t prepare you for what you actually face on the course.
